Quick Hitch kit for Frontier or Woods Finish Mower
Just picked up a used Frontier GM 1072R finish mower. That thing is built like a tank.
Just wondering if anyone has the quick hitch kit and if so how did it work out for you?
I've gotten spoiled with the iMatch on my JD 3520. The only thing that I question about the kit are the chains that take the place of the two brace bars that run to the back of the cutter.
I know the chains give you more flexibility but it seems to take away some of the sturdiness of the unit.
Thinking of getting the anti-scalp kit to go on the front too.

I don't feel the chains will make it less sturdy but might make it harder to use the IMatch. If you have a topntilt hitch with float position on the top cylinder you could skip the chains.

Thanks for your reply Jenkinsph. I don't have the topntilt. I see what you mean by the iMatch being harder to hook up due to the hitch not standing up straight on its own because of the chains.
If I could tighten the bolts enough to hold it up but still have it so it moves when it needs to maybe that would take care of the iMatch hook up.JD3520 eHydro, 300CX FEL, Frontier RB 1172 6', Frontier CA2060E, Frontier RC 1060, LandPride FSP 1000 3pt Spinner Spreader, Leibach 6' Disc, Leibach 2 bottom plow, Ford 5' 3pt finish mower, Kubota ZD-28, Gravely 14 hp 50" walk behind, Stihl Trimmers and Pruners, Diamond 18' Landscape Trailer, 13' High Side trailer, 2001 Chevy 2500 HD 4x4, 2000 Chevy 1500 Z71, JD4010, 3210 Bush Hog 10' Rotary Cutter

You might also consider using the folding bar linkage similar to what is used on the newer MX6, this linkage folds upward when you lean the mast backwards. A better design than the early models which folded down and made the mast tilt back. I don't use my MX6 enough to matter but if I did I would convert it.
Another thing you could try is some wavy washers that provide friction to the linkage.

Re: Quick Hitch kit for Frontier or Woods Finish Mower
Since I have that mower and a QH, I can attest it's quite easy to hook up. You may have to lengthen or shorten the top link (hooked to the QH) so the QH hook catches the mower's upper pin. However, since you've got to hook up the PTO driveshaft, this isn't a problem.
The QH takes care of the biggest hassle...getting the lower link "eyeballs" on the mower's lower pins.
Once my QH captures all the mower pins, I do lengthen the top link to allow more travel.
As far as the chains on the mower...I haven't found any problems and they do allow for more mower movement on uneven ground. The mower deck thickness and welded stiffeners keep everything quite rigid.
As far as the anti-scalp roller, my mower does have one and that's good. My lawn is pretty uneven. The roller minimizes any gouging in the lawn. Unless your lawn is billard table flat, I do recommend the anti-scalp roller.
I was going to attach a picture, but for some reason, the upload failed (there is another thread on this, so it's not just me).Roy Jackson

Re: Quick Hitch kit for Frontier or Woods Finish Mower
Thanks Roy, thats good to know that it works. I'm going to order the QH kit and the anti-scalp kit next week.
I'll try to post some pics when I get it done, I'll try a before and after if I can think of it. Maybe the pic problem on here will be fixed by then.
Thanks again Roy for helping me out.JD3520 eHydro, 300CX FEL, Frontier RB 1172 6', Frontier CA2060E, Frontier RC 1060, LandPride FSP 1000 3pt Spinner Spreader, Leibach 6' Disc, Leibach 2 bottom plow, Ford 5' 3pt finish mower, Kubota ZD-28, Gravely 14 hp 50" walk behind, Stihl Trimmers and Pruners, Diamond 18' Landscape Trailer, 13' High Side trailer, 2001 Chevy 2500 HD 4x4, 2000 Chevy 1500 Z71, JD4010, 3210 Bush Hog 10' Rotary Cutter
