Well I agree, but we're definitely the minority on that one.

But if something broke out of no fault of my own, I wouldn't want to foot the bill. Some cases hard to prove one way or the other.

With regards to instructions you could do videos for each attachment. Send a DVD along with the attachment and then have YouTube type videos as back up so people can watch them on their phone as they are assembling as needed. Just a thought.

I also posted this in the Build-It-Yourself section but I thought it would fit here as well.

I have been thinking about this and wanted to see how much interest there would be. This is an idea I would borrow from Ikea, the furniture store where you get a box full of parts and instructions and assemble everything yourself EXCEPT my idea has to do with what we all love. Build-a-bear? nope....... TRACTOR ATTACHMENTS!!!!

How many people out there would be interested in ordering a kit to build your own attachments(box blade, scrape blade, disc harrow etc.)??
Our components are cut and indexed by our plasma cutter or laser so they fit together perfectly with little room for error. As long as you have the mechanical ability, a square, a flat surface to work on, as well as a welder then this may be for you. I would also include an assembly video along with all of the nuts/bolts and other hardware needed to build your attachments. You would also be able to paint(not included) your attachment whatever color you choose.
Besides the feeling of accomplishment when you've finished building your own attachment, you will have also saved yourself some money which I think we all are for!!
The kits would be limited to products that we build at our facility here in NC and the list of those attachments is growing all the time.

Let me know what you guys think of this. It's only an idea now and I'd like to know if we can turn it into something!

I think this is a great idea. As others have stated the purchacer has to know their limitations. Maby EA Will need to ask some questions also. Come up with a list of required tools. If the purchacer wants a 5' BB onlt has a 110v 80amp welder EA should recomend buying an assembled unit. I also think it would be great to be able to specify different thicknesses of metals. If your standard BB is made from 3/16 steel and I want one a little heavier and stronger I could specify 1/4 steel.Keep us posted.

I was talking more about the you tube part. Not everyone has a tv where they would be assembling an attachment.

I like hooked_on_HP's idea of having the option to increase weight/strength. I would think there may be a market for some to obtain a stronger implement for equal or less than a light weight at retail!

I love this idea and I was going to do it as a business until I did the back of the envelope calculations for employees, insurance, equipment and marketing. However you already have this in place so low sales volume won't be a problem. You also have credibility. I would worry about someone putting your name on it and selling secondhand giving you a possible bad rep. Don't include ea stickers! :)

While it sounds good to have the option to go with heavier materials of your choice this could turn the whole kit idea into a nightmare. If Ted and EA can develop kits for most models of attachments they build that would solve this problem. Buy the kit that best fits your needs. I would also add that if you are a person planning on welding up the parts to save money you should have a good idea of which projects you can handle and which are best to leave alone. I don't think EA can make that call for you.
