    Peter,
You'll have plenty of time to bring logs to the mill, but that chipper won't be around forever, what are you waiting for! Go hook up the trailer and get on the road! (on second thought, maybe you should have someone else hook the trailer up for you)

I wonder what the 9" chipper went for new, I figure if the 6" was 10k then that must be at LEAST 2-3k more right? I've been comparing the specs to other chippers on the market and it really does seem that these things are seriously overbuilt and rock solid. They appear very impressive on paper and although I haven't gotten the chance to use mine yet, my dad has been putting some brush through it and is really impressed, he is used to heavy equipment and often complains that the tractor feels too light for serious work, but not so with the chipper, he says it's extremely well "built".

Just think, you could be chipping wood by the middle of the week. How much nicer would it be to load the logs on the trailer, when all you have to do is cut the tree down, cut off the top, load them into the chipper and there ya go, all cleaned up, no need for brush piles.

Lol! I already sent him an email. No phone number unfortunately. He only just posted it 2 days ago, so hopefully he still has it!

Yep, grapple on the front and chipper on the back. Once everything is gone, put the stump grinder on the back and take care of the stumps. Done.

That is a good deal on the chipper. I have had one for about 10 years and never had a problem. My 30hp kubota L2900 will barely handle it; both the weight and the power requirements are almost too much. The 43hp Kubota Grand L 4330 with 43hp handles it much better, though you can't feed 6" hardwood at the fastest speed. You will probably learn, as I did. that if you load it too much and the tractor slows appreciably the chips will not be ejected and you will have to unclog the discharge path, but that is not a great effort.

I doubt that I will wear it out in a lifetime.

I finally heard back from the seller and we are tentatively set for me picking it up next Tuesday! I asked if he had something to load it into the back of my truck with, and he said that it was so heavy that his loader would not lift it, but he would borrow a tractor from the next farm over to help get it in my truck. He'll have it hooked up to his tractor to demo it for me when I get there.

Did your dad have any issues loading/unloading the 606 model from his truck? The dimensions from the brochure you posted seem similar, just the weight is almost double on the 9" model.

The only issues he had loading it were because it was stored in the guys barn. All he had to lift it were chains, and due to the height of the unit, and the lack of a high clearance barn door, he had to keep adjusting the chains so he could still lift the chipper, but not take the header of the barn door down!

I believe he said he had a little difficulty getting the chains just right due to the chipper seaming top heavy when he lifted it. He said he was nervous that it was going to "tip over" but that there was no issues. What he did was get it out of the barn, then lift it with the M9540, then he kept it suspended in the air while he backed the truck under it (he avoided going cross ways on a hill with the tractor this way) and then lowered the chipper into the back of the truck.

He did say that it still felt "top heavy" in the truck, and he was a little nervous going around corners, thinking it would shift or try to tip over, however, he had it strapped down pretty good and it never moved. It fit in his 1 ton short bed pickup but didn't have a ton of room to spare. You should be fine as I think yours is a long bed right? Even still, if not, just keep the tail gate down, and bring plenty of ratchet straps.

I emailed him and said that a "friend from the forum" was looking at the identical chipper as I have but 9" capacity. He said "tell him he won't be dissapointed with that thing, this one is a beast and I can't imagine how heavy duty the 9" is"
So I think your making a great purchase

Soooo, what are we gonna buy next?

Thanks. I'll be sure to bring plenty of straps. It does look very top heavy.

As to what to buy next, this is what I have my eyes on now:

    http://www.valbygrapples.com/index.p...=78&Itemid=111

That would complete my lineup of forestry related attachments: Root grapple, stump grinder, chipper, log grapple.

Ya, a three point grapple would certainly complete the arsonal! I have my eyes on the Iron and Oak model. I haven't been able to find a grapple like this on the used market, they are few and far between so I may have to bite the bullet and buy one new. Aside from my FEL grapple, it would be my only other brand new purchase.

I'm still planning to drive down to pick it up Tuesday! I hope to firm things up with Mike this afternoon.

EDIT. Just spoke to Mike and I'm going down Monday instead to pick it up. It all goes will, I'll be chipping away Tuesday morning!
