Grapple Looking for a grapple that fits my JD5300

My JD5300 has a bucket on it but I hope to drop off the quick connect bucket and install a grapple to clear brush with. I' ll probably need to add two hoses and a controller? My place in East Texas has quite a few dead pine trees from the drought which need to be handled and disposed of.

Is your loader a John deere or aftermarket. If its John Deere it will have there style of quick attach,Deere has there own line of grapples. Titan makes a John Deere quick attach style now also. If its aftermarket it will probly be skid steer attach,all kinds of options there. LUTT

Thanks for the reply. My loader is a John deere and the hydraulic hoses extend to behind the driver seat.

Thanks for the reply. I have contacted Wildkat and am considering one of their grapples. Trying to decide on the width. My concern is the weight picked up. A full bucket of sand will pick up the drive wheels off of the ground! I'm in the process of adding water to the rear tires.

As for grapple size, there is plenty of thought and opinion on the topic and everyone has their use and application.


For me, I spent considerable time researching and trying what best fit my tractor and my needs. I wanted something heavy duty and versatile. I settled in with the WildKat 48". It is slightly wider than the width of my FEL arms to give me the versatility of tighter spots, digging capability. One cylinder made more sense than two for balance and weight distribution. It is definitely heavy duty. It is not too heavy for my 4520 and therefore not likely for your 5300 either.

Some will argue wider is better, but that is all in the eyes of the beholder and may work best for their application.

I wasn't overly impressed with JD's Frontier line on grapple design. I think they could have done better.

Thanks again! What's your opinion on adding weight for traction? It rarely freezes here and my tractor is two-wheel drive. (I really love the old tractor and how it runs and sounds!)

I either have my box blade (600 lbs) or ballast box (500 lbs) on the back. That seems to be plenty of weight from my experience. I suppose it depends on what you are picking up with the grapple.
