bought a 5083 today. being delivered tomorrow. Going to buy a used heavy duty servis 8ft rear blade Saturday.

I dont have a boxblade. I have a rear blade that I havent used in years. But I have a loader blade and soon! a backhoe. I have done all my gravel and dirt work with the loader bucket for sometime. Do I really need to add a Box blade? Never used one so I dont know how much help one would be. I dont have any gravel road maintenance to do anymore.

Pretty much every attachment I own now, I didn't know I needed until I started reading these forums. :laughing:
You can do a LOT with what you have, but it is certainly nice to have the right tool for the job. :thumbsup: (Just not always necessary)

thanks. Yes, I was thinking about how my old driveway started looking like a washboard when I scraped it with my loader blade even pulling backward. the pic I saw of what that BB could do dropped my jaw. If they cut it even like that I guess I should get one. I need to level a pad for concrete so I can park my backhoe etc now that I will have one. Tired of the difficulties of hooking up on uneven ground.

With practice, you'll be amazed at the shaping and contouring you can accomplish with a BB.

I love my landplane and grading blade for their intended purposes, but the BB is still the most versatile attachment I own.

I think with enough seat time you can get good results with a boxblade, landplane or rearblade. A good experienced operator can do wonders with any ot these attachments. Now for shaping and contouring I agree with RDrancher the boxblade is hard to beat for most jobs. The rearblade is best for ditching and crowning a road or driveway. The land plane grader scraper is perfect for smoothing up drives and larger spaces. I use them all and would not wan't to be without any of them.

Take the Box Scraper to the next level and get a pull type one!! Mine is 6'

I've often thought of the pull type scraper and think it would be great to have one. Unfortunately my land is no where near open enough to where the pull type would be convenient like yours is. I am very often using my box blade in fairly confined areas where I always have to back up or do a lot of maneuvering. For a situation like you have though, where it is nice and open, and you don't have to do a lot of backing, it really seems like a great tool. :thumbsup:
