Long time lurker here and wanted to report on how I hooked up my Tractor Supply/Countyline 3 point log splitter to my Kubota MX5000.
Before I bought it, I searched quite a bit on this forum and several others trying to determine how to connect the tractor hydraulics to a 3 point splitter but never came up with any definitive answers. Hopefully, this post will at least answer any questions there may be about splitters and the MX5000.
My tractor already has remotes that I installed using the factory kit (about $800) and I used these instead of plumbing from the FEL control. These remotes can operate a ram (one hyd. line to a cylinder-like a pull behind shredder) or a double-acting piston (two hyd. lines to a cylinder-like a logsplitter).
In the log splitter application, the tractor's two remote ports are essentially connections to the "power beyond" hydraulic circuit and flow to the ports is controlled by the remote's control valve. Depending on the control valve position, one of the ports is the supply and one is the return.
The connections on the splitter control valve go to the pressure gallery in the valve. Hoses are run from each of the connections on the splitter valve body to the tractor's remotes. It does not matter which hose from the splitter goes to what remote connection because the gallery in the splitter valve is common to both connections. The splitter control uses fluid in the pressurized gallery to actuate the splitter's piston and move it in the direction determined by the control valve handle.
When the hoses have been connected to the remotes, start the tractor and increase the RPM to 1100-1500 and move the remote valve fully one direction or the other to start hydraulic flow to the splitter (you may have to secure the remote's handle in the full open position with a bungee or something) to insure full ow and pressure to the remotes.
Splitter should function normally.
Note: I used 72" long lines to go from the splitter valve to the remotes. I also suggest using a 90deg elbow on the splitter end of the lines to keep them close to the cylinder and out of the way.
