That is one wild looking contraption Piston. How fast will it do the 1/4 mile in?

Re: New Splitfire 3403 3pt Log Splitter has arrived with 4way and 2way knives
If I bought a splitter, it would be a SplitFire. I talked to the guys prior to building my own and they seemed great. Not the cheapest by far, but a quality product. Its all the rental houses here use, and that speaks to the quality.
I have a log catapult on mine too
Its a great feature, really saves the back. One of these days Im going to install a restriction to slow down the lift so I dont throw logs when Im not paying attention

Hey Piston, I got it through the local Massey dealer, Northwood Power Equipment. They did the plumbing as well. The distributor (here in Maine at least) is J.S. Woodhouse. I'm trying to figure out if the 4-way head is an option for me or not. I don't 'think' it is for this model, if memory serves.

Piston That is a very interesting all purpose firewood processing unit. Looks like a nice use for a go kart chassis

Re: New Splitfire 3403 3pt Log Splitter has arrived with 4way and 2way knives
There are a couple of differences of note that make it difficult but not impossible to upgrade to the 4 way model.
Look at the abutments at both ends there are two triangular wedges welded at each abutment about a 1/2" behind the primary abutment surface. These pieces keep the wood on the splitter once the 4 way wedge starts working.
The other primary difference is the carriage assembly that the wedges ride on I assume you could probably cut/grind the existing wedge off and Weld on a piece of bar stock like the 4 way mode l. I assume split fire would probably sell you the 4 way wedge. You might even try contacting them to see if they would sell you an upgrade kit thank includes the carrage assembly with the 4 way wedge and retaining pin and the 4 pieces that are on the abutment.

Re: New Splitfire 3403 3pt Log Splitter has arrived with 4way and 2way knives
It IS very interesting indeed. Just for the record, it is not mine. A guy in Canada was selling it on another forum and posted many pics of it. I think he wanted 5k for it, which really wasn't all that bad. It was the high end model self contained split fire, which is close to 5k itself. The splitter "drove" on it's own using a hydraulic motor for the wheels. It was a pretty neat idea, but in practice I could see it being a hassle.
