Re: New Splitfire 3403 3pt Log Splitter has arrived with 4way and 2way knives
Hi dbaer Thanks, The video is definitely worth a million words. I' did my research on these splitters and other 3 point splitters a lot of people have very good things to say about them. As indicated I've used regular splitters and did a fair amount of research before buying the split fire one thing i will say is if your going to get one definitely spend the extra money and get the 4 way wedge model since it has both the standard wedge and the 4 way you. It is not an easy upgrade to go from the 3203 to the 3403.
I did the calculation using the hydraulic capacity of your mx5100 assuming 9.2 GPM 24" Stroke and 3.5" diameter cylinder The extend direction would take ~6.5 seconds the retraction side would be about 5.5seconds not exactly sure of the rod size. So it would still be much faster than most conventional splitters.Dave

Thanks for the research xring, it's definitely food for thought! I currently use a 34 ton Brave that I modified with a log lift. It uses a 16gpm pump and a 5" cylinder. Very strong but very slow. I will have to see who in southern Indiana sells split fire.

I remember when I was shopping, the Splitfires arent cheap. Remember they are commercial grade and use industrial quality components, made in Canada by a small firm and priced as such. In order to have the 4 way, you have to buy a mid-upper level splitter as well.
I seem to have lost my pricelist spreadsheet. If I find it, ill post it.
EDIT: found the spreadsheet. First time I looked at it in a few years. It appears Im missing a few values. Maybe it will help.. maybe not?Last edited by Scooby074; 12-24-2012 at 10:40 PM. Reason: new info

Yes here is a list from March 2012. I would definitely recommend sitting down first before looking at the prices of the gas powered models. As Jason Said these are commercial grade splitters not tractor supply or home depot special. The honda motors are their commercial motors GX series. I know some people actually order the 9HP motor and 16gpm pump and put it on the smaller model for more speed. That is a custom option you'd have to get a quote through a dealer. The distributor in Michigan is Farmco but contact Chris in the sales department to find your distributor who should be able to find a dealer in your area sales@split-fire.com
Were you ever able to watch the video and what did you think?Dave

Re: New Splitfire 3403 3pt Log Splitter has arrived with 4way and 2way knives
Thanks for the price list

I knew they were expensive but they aren't really any more expensive than the commercial quality splitters from other major manufacturers. I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" with any type of equipment like this. I'd rather spend the money one time, and have that item forever, than want to upgrade down the road. That's just me though
Unfortunately, I can't view the video. I guess I'll have to wait until I get home (another week) until I can view it. I also want to see a video that Grsthegreat posted on snowblowing.

Re: New Splitfire 3403 3pt Log Splitter has arrived with 4way and 2way knives
Dave,
Not sure if you posted it or not, but would you mind sharing your reasons for going with the 3 point model over the self contained?
I'd really prefer the self contained unit, however, due to the price difference, that 3 pt unit is looking better and better
Not to mention, with the log loader, my argument of "having the FEL available to pick up heavy logs" is out the window.
Merry Xmas to everyone!

Great list Dave. Much better than mine re: Splitfires. I remember now that the units I got pricing on were ones that were available for purchase at the time (off the shelf) so my list is a bit thin.
