New Splitfire 3403 3pt Log Splitter has arrived with 4way and 2way knives

I Bet if you really wanted to upgrade and you talked to Chris or Paul at Split fire about upgrading your splitter to a 4 way they would sell you a kit the most difficult part would be to weld the abutments on the current stops. everything else should just slide out and unbolt.

Don't feel to silly you already bought a splitter that is quite a bit faster than the average splitter

yes,

Splitfire builds up to 48" . I dont know how much of a upcharge there will be, but I doubt it would be outrageous.Some of the standard models handle 24" right out of the box. http://www.split-fire.com/pdfs/LogSplitterOptions.pdf

The base splitter will handle 24 " logs but only one piece at a time. Where as it can handle 16.5" @ one end and 16.5" at the other
You would have to clear the wood before the next piece. Somewhat of a pain with the 4 way wedge

I cut my wood 18". Last time I used a Splitfire I only could split a single log anyways. One going forward, one on the return. Still plenty fast ! You must start from the center of the stroke and work out in each direction?

If you want to double load larger wood starting in the center, I suppose that's why they offer the longer lengths, well that and for things like outdoor boilers that take a longer stick.

Hi scooby pretty much its usually just past center one way or another. This is nice as the 4 way often traps wood under it until you slide it out of the way. If you look back at the videos i posted you can see why this is nice its really nice when you only have to stroke the ram 8-10" when splitting ash/oak or any wood that does not require a full stroke.

Watched your vid and I see your method now. The 4 way does kind of pinch the bottom quarters down. I get the same on my splitter, but I have a hyd. wedge so its simple to lift the 4way and clear any jams.

When I used a SF last, it was a single blade, like in the video you posted at #48, that was exactly how I used it. Straight through one way, clear, then reload before returning.

Hello Piston, I've been busy with other things. still Clearing out last seasons wood I've sold 3 cord at my place (not face cords) so far, we've got plenty more. We've got a bunch of logs gathered at my buddies and need to get more.

As for the splitter I've split between 8 and 9 cord. In 5 hours me and my next door neighbor split 4- 5 cord that included 3 trips with his dump trailer from the back to front of his property. The splitter with 2 people can split somewhere between 2/3 and 1 1/3 cords and hour depending on the size of the rounds being split 6-10" is ideal as they only need to be processed once and produces a lot of wood anything smaller requires lots More pieces to be handled to yield the same amount. Bigger than 10" requires the pieces to be split more than once and requires more handling. Ive split logs up to 30 some inches in diameter. These big rounds need to be broken on the power stroke. I've Never had to take the 4 way off.
Only problem so far is that i bent the 3 pt attachment bottom bar to lower links and top link attachment pin. I hit a chuck hole at just under 20 mph in route to my buddies 3.5 miles away didn't see it hidden in the shadows. It shook the tractor, loader, and splitter myself included. I have since gusseted the lower bar and converted the top link to a clevis style attachment. I don't blame this on split-fire but myself. I intended to paint the splitter orange but have run out of time this year.

Probably start splitting wood in November or December
