Can someone tell me if I can use the hydro lines for my backhoe to supply a log splitter?

Shouldn't be a problem how much flow does the pump put out. What kind of hackhoe is it

I'm guessing your tractor was setup with a power beyond for the backhoe using 3 lines?. You can definitely plug into that. You would loose your three point lift if you tie into the feed and the return port. I just tie into a valve and bungee cord it so it doesn't self cancel. 11.6 gpm would move this model at a pretty decent rate but you need high revs to get that flow. I calculate about 11 - 12 gpm out of mine at 2100 rpm which is about where i normally run it

Hey would you look at that. Thanks for pointing this out. I still love the splitter eventually
I'll build a trailer and use a gas engine. Only real reason is to keep the hours off the tractor. I like having it on the tractor as its self propelled. I cut my wood into long piles usually 6 feet or so deep and up to 20 feet long I just drive down the pile length wise and split and stack the wood into my firewood bags

Dave, I re- read the thread and missed something the first time around. In your original post, you mention you ordered it with the high glow hydraulics? What is that, and what does it do/change?

Did you end up putting a flow restrictor in the log lift circuit?

Hi Piston,
The high flow hydraulic option includes the bigger hard lines and hoses from the 4000 series splitter.
The base 3403 splitter is only rated for 12 GPM.

All spitfire valves are a prince 20 GPM valve

I found I do not need any restriction for the lift. The lines them selves are sufficiently small am serve as an orifice . If I open the valve all the way I hit the pressure relief on the tractor side because i have to my flow for the little lines. The lift is very responsive to input. Even at wide open it will not cause the logs to leave the table if lifted all the way at full speed.

On a related note
My Gannon box scrapper shank cylinder has small lines also and I can not use my self canceling detent to raise or lower them as it immediately kicks out if I'm much over idle because it hits the pressure relief.

Hi, Just FYI, I bought a split-fire 16 years ago (I'd have to run down the barn to give you the Model #, but at the time it was their best one, and at the time it was advertised 25 tons of force. I just left their website, and see no current 25 ton Models. Anyway,), and have used it with my Kubota 2910hsd to split the wood needed to heat my home, and much of the wood my next-door-neighbor buddy used. I live in Northern Virginia, heat only with wood, and never have had a problem with my split-fire. I managed to roll some 5' diameter oak up on to it (THAT took me a while). Just wanted to say that you will not find a better splitter (IMO). That's all. I called them once with a question, and the owner and the designer (this was when I first got it) both called me back, together. THAT's the kind of company it is. Built to last forever, it is. Mine is good as new.
