New tractor owner looking for info! I got my Kabota L4610HST with fel about 9 months ago. I have been doing a lot of loader work and some serious brush cutting with a Woods BB6000.
But, I now want to plant some wildlife food plots and make other improvements to enhance the wildlife. It seems that any research into planting and seed bed prep allmost always mentions the use of a cultipacker. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I found out basicly what a cultipacker is and what it is used for but (da!) I have not had much luck searching for 6' or 7' cultipackers to work with a 3point hitch on a cut tractor. What few I find are for the larger tractor.
Does anyone know where you might find a cultipacker who makes one for the utility tractors or what is a simular implement that could be used?
Lot of question I guess but I am very confused. Lots of reference to their use but can't find um>

Thanks for any advice

A harrow (drag section) will do 90% of what a cultipacker does. You will be hurt in really dry planting seasons, if you are in a dry area, but if you get adiquate rainfall during seeding time, pulling the drag section over the ground whenever you were supposed to cultipack will often be just fine.

I guess there are 2 different machines with this name locally, so maybe I should ask first - are you looking for something that makes a firm seedbed, like a roller, or are you looking for a full-blown, very expensive cultipacker which has 2 rows of special cast wheels to pack, with some rows of adjustble teeth in the middle to rip up the seedbed? these are great if you need to put in 50 acres of alfalfa, but for seed plots, just get a harrow & disk or field cultivator - cheaper & those 2 implements will get you where you want to be.

Brillion makes a small 3pt mounted packer. But on the other hand, for food plots like you are talking you really do not need to worry about it. Granted your plots would most likely grow better but if you are just planting for the animals you will find you will have more then enough food for the animals just planting into tilled ground.

Your profile doesn't say were you are from. This helps us when we answer questions. Certain areas have more or less of an item!!

I went to an auction and picked up a 12' cultipaker single row and connects to the draw bar for $175.These things are nothing to pull because they don't dig into the ground
You should be able to get a 8' one for about $200
I would highly recommend one if you are going to plant clover for deer.It makes a firm seed -bed insuring that the clover doesn't get planted to deep

Good luck

You can also use an old bed spring, a railroad tie, log, piece of chainlink fence, etc. It won't work as well as a cultipacker, but will do in a pinch.

If you are handy with all the usual steel working & welding tools, and have the time, then you might consider buying a larger one and cutting it down to the size you want. Something to consider if you can't find what you want.....

I'm surprised these things cost what they do. I'm sure there are some really cheap ones to be found but they don't seem to come around often around here, mainly looking at craigslist.
