RE:5\' Agri Bush Hog- 1st bush hog............Help!

Thanks for all the great comments & assistance. My first foray into bushhogging was a success, with one caveat. I got everything done & was turning around to pull out of a depression when I caught a hidden pile of concrete. The bush hog stopped. I saw a half bolt with nut on the deck. Upon stopping to investigate I found the driveshaft to be free wheeling & apparently a shear bolt broke off at the gearbox connector. I haven't gone any further, but first I need to remove the plastic shaft cover. How is this done? Is this an expensive lesson? Repair? You guys are a fantastic resource. Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It really depend on the design of your cover. A lot of them have plastic tabs around the tube behind the bell that need to be pushed in with a screwdriver. You may have a different type and need to check your manual.

BTW welcome to TBN. I am in the same county as you are but about 25 miles north. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't know about your cover but on mine there's enough room to get my hand in there and put another shear bolt in without the hassle of taking the cover off everytime you break a shear bolt.I would try that first before I attempted to take the shield off.On some they can be a real pain to put back on.

On another note I just ordered a Eurocardan slip clutch for my Woods BB60,seems it doesn't take much to break a shear bolt. Some where down the road you may wan't to put one on if you start breaking a lot of shear bolts.

Just the cost of one grade 2 bolt and nut (I'd either use a self locking nut or a split ring lock washer also). You just have to turn the PTO shaft until the holes line up and punch out what's left of the old bolt and put a new one in.
