I got money to burn, not really but I have saved enough for a grapple FINALLY. Now I just need a "Wicked" version of a clam style root grapple. Come on guys I do not want to send my money to someone else. But I can not wait forever!!!

I Stand Alone

Why do you want a clam style?

I like the clam style when it's done right, for tighter clamping dimensions. I particularly like the Bradco style, as it appears to have SOME forward protrusion of the lower tines usable for scooping and lifting instead of being strictly a rake, and how the top and bottom tines bypass each other for a tighter grip.

I have used both types of grapples. With a clam style you do not need to get under the load and picking from the top seems to work better with a clam. Also I have several acres that I cleared this winter before I crushed my foot and have been layed up for a couple of months. The top of the grapple will work better as a rake to clean up all the loose brush. I can set the FEL to float tip the grapple down and back up to grab loose brush etc. This does not work as well with a flat bottom style grapple.

By the way I thing a 66" grapple for your prototype would be perfect!

Just my $.02

I got a 72 incher and it's nice. I think I need to add some screen or something on the back. I don't like limbs poking through trying to scratch my tractor. In this case, I used the bottom bar on the lower jaw to break the limbs on one side. That made it easy to get in close with no limbs protruding.

That's your classic Eastern Red Cedar after it lays around for a year. Last fall I took a dozer after my place and took down thousands of them. A few were left around so now that I have a grapple, I am cleaning them up. I'm impressed with the grapple.
