Baddest LS P7010C south of Palm Beach County
Im sure the topic has been discussed 1000 times, but my searches only lead to post from 2005.
Here are my questions

1. is Jbar any good, old reviews showed them they sucked but was wondering if they have gotten any better.
2. most brush mowers say they have a 40hp or 60hp, what is it that I should use for my LS 7010 and do I need a clutch.
3. Do I need a 2 blade or 4 blade.

Im hoping to get the farm back to normal grass height within the next few weeks, not sure If I should buy a brush mower or just rent one out when I need it.... only $160 from friday to monday morning.

Like always any help would be awesome

By brush mower I assume you are referring to a rotary cutter? How many acres do you have to cut, and also do you have many tight places that you need to maneuver that would make a large mower difficult to use? A rotary cutter is one of the essential implements to own if you have a farm in my opinion. Buying one is a very good investment. A P7010 has 62 PTO HP. The minimum size bushhog I would look at is a 7foot for that size tractor. Any smaller than that would not cut the width of the tractor. What kind of brush do you plan on mowing? If you only have grass to mow and no heavy brush you can run a larger mower with a P7010.

The grass is only located in between the Palm rows. I would guess no more than 2 acres of actual grass cutting. just a lot of up and down the rows....lol
would be difficult to get something wider than the tractor because the 7010 is pretty wide and the rows are only set about 8' apart.
could I use a smaller hp mower or does it have to be one that big.

For cutting the "lanes" in between the palm tree rows, a 7foot rotary cutter will fit perfect behind a P7010. Trust me you do not want to bushhog with anything narrower than the tractor, I know from experience. When choosing a rotary cutter you want a gearbox rated at or above your PTO HP to avoid gearbox damage. So with 62 PTO HP a 60 or 80hp gearbox would be a good choice. I would definitely recommend a rotary cutter with a slip clutch vs a shear bolt. When you hit something with a slip clutch you can just raise the cutter off the obstacle and keep on going vs having to get off the tractor to replace a shear bolt. Bushhog, Rhino, and King Kutter, are my favorite brands when it comes to rotary cutters, but that is simply personal preference.

I think I'm just going to rent until I make a little money. Including the tractor I'm up to $30k and have only made about $1000 on palms. Once I get up to like $10k, I'll start looking at some toys.

Thanks for the help guys.

If you just mowing high grass between the rows try to rent a flail mower. a 7ft rotary cutter with a tail wheel has a huge swing when turning... The flail mower is more compact to the back of the machine with a small swing radius.

I just looked up what a flail mower is and I'm pretty sure it won't work for me. To many palm fronds that are all dried up in the middle of the rows, they locked up the blade on my dads 27hp JD.
I better be safe and use the crap I know how to use...lmao

Don't rule out a flail mower for your use; The hardened side side slicer knives
work very well in a lot of conditions. Please check the tractorhouse web site for
flail shredders and you will find one that can do the job for you.

The rotary mower will clog up simply because of the way it is designed and
the larger rotary cutter will not shred the material as well as a flail mower will
create a huge amount of suction to cut up the palm fronds for you as long as you
purchase a small width unit 5-6 feet wide that will work for your tractors horsepower at the PTO.

Short of your getting a small tractor like a BX2360 for example and a grapple for the loader
you do not have lot of wiggle room short simply renting a shredder and picking up the
palm fronds and feeding them into the shredder.
