Option 1: Just use your current 5' bush hog. At a speed of 5mph and an efficiency of 85% you can mow 2.57ac/hr. Two full days you could have the whole thing mowed.

Option 2: Buy a good used 7' sickle bar mower. It will work great in light cutting like that, but the max height for any standard sickle bar is 4" (with the skids set in the highest setting.) IMO a 9' is too much, it puts a fair amount of side drag on the tractor and you have a pretty light tractor. The long bar would also put a lot of weight on the right hand 3pt hitch link, not ideal. With a 7' sickle bar you could get the field mowed at rate of 3.6ac/hr, at 5mph and 85% efficiency.

Definitely Yes- my old 25 HP 1943 Case SC handled a 7 foot sickle mower cutting hay without a problem (and hay is much thicker than just clipping a pasture).
The old Case had a slow ground speed though bet third gear wasn't over 5 mph so it would still take alot of time to giturdone. My dad and I plowed up 80 acres with a Case SC pulling a 6' offset Amco disk, THAT TOOK SOME TIME.

I like the idea of a larger pull type rotary cutter the best.

I've seen it done but can't find any pictures online. I agree a 9' may be too much.

I mow my lawn at about 8 mph very frequently and the mower tires are alot smaller than a 3038. I would think how fast you can move would depend on how rough your pasture is but you might be able to run a little faster and save some time.

I would also wonder how frequently or how long you plan to mow this at this 10 inch height? I think it would be better to figure out how to solve the problems that cause the need for cutting the tops off if you can. Maybe seeding and fertilizing and/or lime would be a better investment than a large mower. Mowing the tops off and leaving a 10" stem would be an ongoing ordeal imo.

I have been cutting 17ac 2to3 times a yr with a 5' brush cutter behind a John Deere 2520 without an issue.
It takes a little under 10hrs per cut. I have been cutting it down to 6". The old pastures are a little too unlevel and hilly to use anything too much wider without regrading everything.
