Shibaura 36 H diesel
I have a Shibaura SD3000 (36HP) with a frontend loader. If I add a BH and operate with the front bucket on the ground do I need a subframe or will this give the tractor enough stability while in operation?

i think you may be mistaking what the subframe is for. it is not for tip stability.. but for frame reinforcement.

i'd keep the laoder down either way.

I WOULD reccomend buying or making some sort of subframe if using a 3pt backhoe. even if it is a simple welde dup one that tie toa few axle and frame supports.. anything is better than nothing.

swinging free and loosly mounted 3pt hoes are brutal on tractors. try to imobilize them as much as possible, and make them rigid and spread out the force on many points vs a few.

I added a woods 6500 hoe to an old ford 850 and made up my own subframe.

works great.

What Soundguy said. There are two kinds of backhoes available: 3 point mounted and subframe mounted. It's generally better to have one attached with a subframe because it's stronger and doesn't put as much stress on the tractor. It's also safer. Using a backhoe involves all kinds of lifting, pulling and twisting forces as you operate the bucket and swing the boom. Neither the 3 point linkages nor the tractor itself are designed for such forces, so with most backhoe setups, having a subframe acts to carry those forces directly to the backhoe stabilizers and the loader bucket. If you have knowledge, resources and skill, it's possible to build your own subframe for a 3 point type backhoe, as Soundguy did; the rest of us usually buy a subframe type backhoe if that's what we want. All that being said, there are lots of 3 point type backhoes, which can be OK for light duty use.

Thanks guys,
I have more research to do. Trying to stay within a budget so spending alot of time learning about hoes before I spend my money and make a big mistake.
