I second the logging winch and FEL grapple. You will find hauling out trees to be a much easier task with the winch. Grapples are just flat out handy for doing all kinds of jobs.

Don't know if it is in your budget, but a backhoe also has a lot of uses. Makes getting the stumps out a much easier chore. Also great for holding logs for cutting.

I can't disagree with anyone's suggestion, but I find myself using my loader mounted pallet forks all of the time. It you can't swing the cost of a grapple - the forks work well. I have moved many a brush piles with only my forks. Plus all of the other hauling, loading, unloading and lifting chores.

Nice tractor!! Great size!!

I'd first be wanting to know what you're planning for 400 acres of trees? It'd also help to know what you've got there now? If the forest has been well managed and you simply want to selectively harvest a few or if you want to slash it all down to make a lawn that'd help to know as well? Are you planning to plant anything and if so what? Oh yes... just to be a smart I'd suggest a chain saw or two. Didn't notice that anywhere in the above posts.

Mud and Ice chains for that just in case moment.

Your Sawmill use makes me ask if you have to pay a toll or present
an offering of appeasement to the Missippi Wildman every time you
wander into the Piney Woods?

Chains make sense, but there isn't any ice.

As far as tolls, they pay me,

You are running into the problem I am now with equipment size on a big vs small tractor. My B3200 and NAA use the same equipment, but the 5203 Deere mostly needs bigger CAT II equipment.

For your situation I'd look for the following things first:

6' heavy duty box blade, needs to be well over 600lbs, preferably 800-1000lbs for a tractor that size

6" chipper (could maybe use on the B7610 if you are doing small stuff and it isn't too heavy)

Pallet forks

Tooth bar

Heavy tandem disc, 7' 3pt model. Preferably over 1000lbs

Broadcast seeder, could easily be used on either tractor

I've got a 4' HD BB, so that'll wait.
I'm looking at an 8" Jinma chipper
Definitely getting pallet forks
Think I can borrow disc and seeder from CIL.

Fel grapple requires quick attach, which runs up the price. I was thinking of starting with a "thumb". A nice 9' backhoe will be big $$, but for about $300 I can get a bracket to use my BH70-X.

I've laid out my plans all over TBN for the last 4 years. That's why I wrote:
<snip>
Primary purpose remains woodlot/deer plot management in northeast Mississippi. I'm not into row crop farming or hay. NO SNOW. I've got a Woodmizer LT10 sawmill to feed, no horses or cattle (yet).

<snip>.
My wife frowns on me getting more chainsaws. For some reason she thinks 430CC are enough:
A Stihl 088, 120CC
Two Stihl 660's, 90CC@
A JD CS 62, 62CC
A Stihl 021, 35CC
An Efco MT3600, 35CC

Along with 2 chainsaw mills.

I like to occasionally fire up all the Stihls and listen to them run :)

Thanks for the suggestions, keep em' coming.

You don't have to have quick attach for a grapple. My grapple is pin on. It does take a few minutes to swap the grapple for the bucket but the usefulness of the grapple more than makes up for the inconvenience.

Is that a Mahindra pin-on grapple or third party? If third party do you have a link?
How west is NW Mississippi? I'm over near the Ten-Tom.

My grapple is also pin on. I got it from WR Long. The made the grapple to my loader specs. It does take a little more time though.

Sometimes it takes me 5 minutes, while other times it takes me 20 minutes.

And yes, adding a thumb to the 7' backhoe makes it a whole new tool. I have the thumb.....woods makes a kit for it.

Here's a link: WR Long Open Bottom Grapple for compact tractors. We can have it made for your pin on loader and shipped for free to a business or supporting freight terminal within 1,000 miles of Newton, NC.

That's good to know.
I've got a manual thumb for the backhoe. I'm trying to decide if I want to go with clamp on pallet forks and a FEL thumb, a separate pin on grapple, or blow the $$ on a quick attach for the front and go that way. I'm leaning towards pallet forks and a Fel thumb Shop Online. I could use the pallet forks on both tractors.
