Default M4700, 400 acres of trees, what suggested attachments?

Just got an M4700 (51HP/42HP at PTO). Have a B7610, in my sig.

    -8x6sam_0798-jpg

And I'm looking to accessorize (or attachmentize?) I'm looking for advice on what's essential, what to look out for when buying used, and what to steer clear of.

I already have a 48" box blade, a 12KW PTO generator and a set of 3pt pallet forks.

Primary purpose remains woodlot/deer plot management in northeast Mississippi. I'm not into row crop farming or hay. NO SNOW. I've got a Woodmizer LT10 sawmill to feed, no horses or cattle (yet).

I'm planning on getting a PTO chipper and FEL pallet forks. I surf Craigs List frequently for used equipment. If possible I'd like equipment that could be used on either of the tractors (like the generator). I need to make/maintain trails, deer plots, maybe some small ponds.

I had resigned myself to getting a < 40HP tractor due to wallet size, so I hadn't focused on getting an extra 10HP. And kubota.

    Most suggestions welcome.

Any hints on what to look for that would make them a good or bad buy?

Your box blade is too small for the wheel width of the tractor, at least a 6' box would be better and weigh significantly more, plus provide rear ballast weight when using the FEL. A good debris bucket (with grapple if you have the extra $$) would greatly enhance your debris removal from the wooded areas. On your way to MS stop in at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky. Largest indoor farm equipment show in the US. There is an incredible amount of attachments, accessories, and knowledgable sales folks. Take it with a grain of salt, but you can learn a lot and get some good ideas and often bargains on new and sometimes used equipment. The variety and sheer number of attachments make the trip worthwhile and it is a lot of fun. I have a rock and debris bucket that I bought from Horst Welding last year at the show and I have found it remarkably useful. Take your time and look around and see what is available. If you have questions about a specific piece of equipment or brand this site, TBN, is incredibly useful, plus it is a lot of fun.

That's a nice collection of gear; you should be up to your elbows in sawdust!
My list would include the following:
PTO chipper, which you already have.
Logging winch to get your trunks out of the woods and to the mill.
Maybe a logging arch to use with the winch to keep the logs out of the dirt/mud - your mill will thank you.
    A grapple for the FEL.
The forks will come in handy - you may want Top-N-Tilt to make them more versatile.
    That's the problem with trouble.
It always starts out as such fun."

Along the line of attachments, how many remotes are ideal? I know I'll want a grapple on the front.

For cleanup around trees and opening up rough access a Ratchet Rake is useful and at <$350 qualifies as a great value.

Make a TITLE search for RATCHET here on T-B-N, there are a great many endorsements.

I bought my Ratchet Rake at Tractor Supply and recently they are available from T-B-N Store.

You are running into the problem I am now with equipment size on a big vs small tractor. My B3200 and NAA use the same equipment, but the 5203 Deere mostly needs bigger CAT II equipment.

For your situation I'd look for the following things first:

6' heavy duty box blade, needs to be well over 600lbs, preferably 800-1000lbs for a tractor that size

6" chipper (could maybe use on the B7610 if you are doing small stuff and it isn't too heavy)

    Pallet forks

    Tooth bar

Heavy tandem disc, 7' 3pt model. Preferably over 1000lbs

Broadcast seeder, could easily be used on either tractor
