I would guess north of 3 grand. You probably don't need it, but they sure are nice. A lot depends on just how often you need to use it and of course what the budget may be.

For cutting new roads, I wouldn't even use a box blade, but one of these rear blades.

It doesn't seem like a blade would work for popping roots and rocks? Never used one but I think In my soil i need break up surface first to smooth it and make a path / road. I have a pretty heavy York rake and it is useless in the woods.

I thought the box blade was what I needed but open to suggestions.

If you have to deal a lot with rocks and roots, then the rear blade would not be the best implement to use. When it comes to just dirt, it is pretty hard to beat though. If you will be pulling on roots and rocks, it sounds like you are going to need that Gannon. You need to have something that is not going to bend and it sure would be nice to be able to raise and lower the rippers from the seat at the touch of your hand.

Can't improve on the advice given so far. I bought too light and "made do" with added weight. After many years of using a variety of box scrapers, I decided to bite the bullet so to speak and bought a Land Pride HR3584 to use on our tractors and put Top and Tilt on one of our tractors. The cost was a bit hard to swallow, it it was worth it. Other box scrapers are as good or better than mine, but it is what my dealer handles and I like LP equipment.

I guess my only advice is to buy the best box scraper of an appropriate weight that you can afford and seriously consider adding Top and Tilt.

Mine is considerably wider than my tires on our L5740, but I also use it on our M8540 and it covers the tread.
