Was driving by a horse training/boarding facility the other day and saw a guy using an implement I didn't recognize.

The implement was circular in shape (like a wagon wheel) and laid flat against the ground.....it rotated as it was pulled and, as it rotated, it broke up the soil.

The implement was being used to resurface the track, but I thought it might be useful for keeping firebreaks clear??

So, what was it??

Its a rotary tined drag harrow. It is a variant of the standard drag harrow that has been around for 100+ years. Some one found that by orienting the center a little bit off they could make it spin and thus seem to carry the dirt around and distribute it more easily and level than a straight bar drag. They arent cheap either but I doubt they would "clear " anything, they are used for leveling out the arenas and could be used in garden or other plowed surface but not in unplowed soil.

We have King Kutter rotary harrows on our website. Gary provided an excellent description.
