Tractor
Kubota MX5100
I'm in need of a good disc to work some fairly level, but a bit rocky, mid-TN soil. Looking for a 3-pt setup for now ... will be used in the garden as well as some small pasture renovation, maybe a deer plot as well. I have a MX5100 tractor so am looking in the 6-7' range. I already have a tiller but sometimes I've found I really needed a disc as well. Now that I've got most of my gardens/planting established I may end up selling the tiller once I get a disc.

Been looking for used stuff ... some folks are just a bit too proud of their rusted out junk so now I'm looking to possibly buy new. I've looked at some threads here, but forgive me if I've overlooked anything that's already been written on this. I've checked online & saw the Woods, Landpride, and TSC's "Countyline" products ... looks like I need to budget in the $1400 & up range because I'm looking for heavy, rugged, and good welds. Before I start talking with dealers are there any other brands I should be on the lookout for? I don't know all the reputable/quality 'names' in this business so would appreciate your leads & recommendations. Thanks for the assist.

Our deluxe box frame disc harrow features all of the best hardware from custom bearing hangers, roller bearings, and two crank adjustments to easily set the angle of the front and rear gangs to your preference. We also offer a large frame box frame harrow with a Cat I and II hitch. The shipping is free to a business or supporting freight terminal within 1,000 miles of Newton, NC
One of the first EA large frame 24x20 harrows we sold was to a guy in GA for a MX5100 and here's what he had to say:
"This harrow does in one pass that my old angle iron harrow would take 3 passes. Just a fair warning to anyone wanting on of these new box framed harrows. These are harrows are HEAVY. Make sure you match them up correctly to your tractor. Also, for food plots, with the easy gang adjustments, I was able to easily make changes, to cover the seed we were putting out."

I ran into the same issue when I was looking for a used disc - all the ones on Craigslist were WAY overpriced and looked like they had been sitting underground for 10 years or more. I have no idea why they thought the discs were worth more than new ones...

At any rate - I bought a 7' Armstrong AG Disc Harrow from my dealer. I have not had an oppertunity to try it out, but I like what I see. VERY well built. The unit was normally $1075, but I got the him to discount it by $100 - so my final price was $975. Of course I also dropped over $40k on a new tractor too - so that might have had something to do with the discount... and the free delivery...

Keith, that is a SWEET looking tractor. Well done ... sure you have a lot of work planned for that. Thankfully I bought my Kubota gently used, but at least it had a couple of scratches so I didn't feel bad using it :)

Appreciate the lead on the Armstrong disc ... I'll look into that - the price looks about right & that's the size I'm looking for. Also saw a LandPride unit with an option to attach a broadcast seeder ... kind of like that idea too.

Appreciate the reply/advice.

A screw type adjustment is on all of our box frame harrows. This rare luxury is only one of the design features that make our harrows a great value to the customer. Instead of leaving the gang tubes open or capping them with plastic, we weld a solid piece of steel on the ends which gives it added strength and durability.
That is a good set-up you have there SanDucerro. Dealers are willing to throw in attachments for little or no profit when you drop $40K on a new tractor. Good Job!!!

True - had they not been willing to do so I had your adjustable one on my radar. I really liked the looks of your unit and would have gone that route if they hadn't given me such a great deal. I did order one of your post hole diggers though. Shipped directly to the farm for a $25 upcharge (which is well worth the extra as it saved me from having to go into Houston for the free shipping).

On the Armstrong AG - Got to use it for the first time this week. Worked as expected - no surprises of note. I've got it set at full agressive and expected a bit finer look to the soil after running it. This was on plowed ground and I went over it 4 times (down and back and then down and back again). I wind up with "clods" that are bigger than a golf ball, but smaller than a baseball - so I suppose they are about the size of a tennis ball. Should I expect to be able to get this finer - or is that about right?

BTW - the M7040 has NO issues pulling the disc harrow...

I hate it when I have to quote myself - even more so when it's to correct misinformation... But, I'd rather look foolish for a moment than to be guilty of half-truths. I looked at my paperwork this morning to give someone else a heads up on the price I paid for my tractor. When I did so I realized I had misquoted the price I paid for the Armstrong AG Disc Harrow. The actual retail price of the disc was $1895. I did get $100 off, but my final price was $1795 - not $975. Obviously there is a significant difference in the two prices and it certainly changes my "deal" from spectacular to "so-so". However, I didn't want any board members looking for Armstrong AG prices that were unobtainable from their dealers based on info I had erroneously provided. I can't say I'll never make an error in the future - as I have certainly made them in the past - but I can say I'll always step up and say I'm wrong if need be.

We appreciate the business! Keep us in mind for your future attachment needs. You're not far out of Houston so shipping should be really reasonable!!
