The John Deere dealer told me I need to get a 5 foot rear blade, a lot of people say it will handle a 6 ft blade? What is everyone's thoughts? The JD dealer wants to sell me a Landpride 1560 for $525.

get one the width of your rear tires.

What the above gentlemen said... If you get a 5' blade it will cover your tires when angled. If you just want to use it for med/light duty snow and gravel you can pull a 6' behind your tractor without any trouble, but if you want to be able to sink it into dirt then 5' works better (I tried both). You won't hurt anything either way, you'll just spin your tires that much easier when carrying the bigger anchor. *grin*

It's worth getting the "L" units from JD/Frontier or a corresponding type unit from other brands. You can lift 6-8 hundred pounds back there, so the L isn't really light-weight... It's "lower height", which comes in handy. Basically since you have smaller tires, you'll have trouble holding something high off the ground back there and so a lower profile implement will match up nicely with your unit.

Something like the RB2060L would be perfect, but the 72" will be lovely to use as long as you are just skimming (snow, gravel) and not digging.

My 2c :)

HunterWare he recommened the Landpride 1560 is it really worth the $200 more than one you buy a Tractor Supply or other places? I prolly will stick with the 5 foot blade. Who makes the RB2060L?

I just did a search and saw the JD?Frontier makes that blade, my local JD dealer says he will not sell Frontier equipment he said Landpride is much better made the only way he sells it if the customer insists.

I agree on the one foot over tire width but do not know your tire width or HP. I like Land Pride. Over the years it seems with equipment if I will up grade at time of purchase I am happier over the next 10-40 years. :)

I do know if one goes oversize too much it is hard to rotate the blade 180 degrees.
