I have a yanmar Sc2400 and can't decide on which mower to get. I have less than an arcre to mow, have a couple trees, hills, and and a ditch. I was thinking that a rear mount would be good to back under the trees and the ditch while a mmm would be harder to mow the ditch. What to you guys think.?

I'd go for the rear mount...in fact, your post has the justifications.
Other things to consider are price (MMM's are more expensive then rear mount mowers) and availability. MMMs can be had, but the bracketry to mount it to your Yanmar may be difficult to find, if available at all.

Thanks for your comment. Yanmar sells a mmm for my tractor some I can image I get the brackets through them

Roy is right, a rear mount may be better in your stuation. But I prefer a MMM for my place(I use a weedeater for the rest).

Your tractor is the Cub/Yanmar sc2400, correct? If so you will have no problem getting a MMM if you so desire, but they ain't cheap.

It's kind of the opposite for me. I have RFM on my tractor and a 1,000 foot ditch on our road frontage. The 72" RFM scalps the ditch. The 54" MMM on our lawn tractor doesn't.

I think a MMM is probably better for a sub compact.

For wide open spaces like we have it's hard to beat a RFM. For an acre I would think the MMM better. If you do loader work the MMM can be an issue. Some MMM's with little ground clearance can get scrunched if left on while doing loader work.

It all depends on the layout of the OP's property, and the limb clearance on the trees. I need a MMM for mine, but I mowed a place out the road from me last year, and I would have traded an eyetooth for an RFM.

First tractor we had was an International Cub LoBoy 154 with a 60" MMM, and it made me want to try a RFM. I couldn't cut too close / under low branches without the tractor and me eating branches and it was a royal pain to remove and replace the deck. I know there have been significant improvements in MMM mounting in the past 20-some years, so that may not be a big factor any more. The picture below shows the next three tractors on the day the L3200 was delivered. The Ford 1210 with a 60" Caroni replaced the LoBoy around '92 and we still have it. The B7500 with a L60" Landpride in the middle was bought new in '02 and was replaced by the L3200 with a 72" Landpride this past summer. The newest deck is a rear discharge, while all of its predecessors were right side discharge. It didn't take long for me to really like the rear discharge.
