2013 Kubota B3200HSD
Hey guys... and girls. We recently moved back out to the "country" and I have 12 acres. We've always had vegetable gardens and I've always wondered if a plow would be of use to me. I just bought a new Kubota B3200 and on our new property I found an old plow along with other things including a very old 2 person sleigh with original bells. I'll have to get pictures soon and get them on here. I don't know anything about plows, never used one. I know it's a one bottom and it has steel or cast wheels and it has a curved "hitch" coming pretty far out front. I know it's hard to answer my questions without seeing it, but I'm wondering if I can use this thing to turn over some ground? That would be the coolest thing since sliced bread and it would make my day. I'll try to get pics tomorrow after work and get them on here if it's not raining too hard.
Thanks

Pics will help. sounds like what you found would have been pulled by a team of mules. Likely, your tractor has sufficient horses to be an adequate replacement...but I'm a little short on the mules to horses conversion ratio to be sure:confused3: So, if you want to do it the old school way, you can drive the tractor and have the wife hold on to the plow. You'll have to rig up something to pull it since it is unlikely to hitch to your 3 point.

Rain? I've heard about it but been a long time since I've seen any...drought here:thumbdown:

take the plow back and buy you a tiller for the tractor
that way you can get your garden done in one operation
you will like it a lot better for other areas also

he found the plow on his place, wants to play with it, it would be an experience...yes, if he gets serious about plowing lots of land or if his wife gets tired of plowing:laughing:, he'll look for a different approach, of which a tiller is the high end attachment.

I used to have a howard rotovator 48 inch tiller for my old New Holland TC18. It was a fantastic piece of machinery I'll admit that. I bought it used for $500, tore it down, adjusted everything and replaced fluid and even painted it NH blue. So I've had experience with what a tiller can do and would love to get another one some day but can't justify the expense (unless I could find another for that price). As stated, I have the plow, found it on my property and just want to mess around with it if I can. I'll make sure to get some pics posted soon.
Thanks

I finally got some pictures of the plow. It's a 2 bottom. Looks to be in rough shape although I don't know anything about plows. Does anyone know what it is and if it's even worth putting any work into to make it usable?
Thanks

Don't know what brand, but obviously a pull behind type plow. If your kubota is stout enough to pull it, it should work. What size are the moldboards on it? If any of the moving parts are froze up, then obviously you'll have to work them loose first. I say it's worth trying it out to see what happens.

i would buy a 3pt drawbar to a attach the plow to id use the center hole raise the 3pt up till the touges level you may have to take the wheels and axle off the plow for it to work on the tractor

That appears to be an Oliver Raydex plow. I've attached a pic of one, but on rubber. I don't see the left on land wheel, or tail wheel. The rack for the adjusting handle should be mounted toward the front. And I don't see the lifting mechanism that is suposed to be located on the left side. Looks like a slightly curved cast bar, with large teeth pointing down. And unusual it has just jointers, and no coulters, but some were used that way. Early Oliver horse drawn plows had the same setup. If it were me, I'd be looking for those parts..!! If it were in operating condition, that's one of the sweetest pulling plows ever made.

If you can't find the parts, I'd advise NOT to scrap it..!! Check your area for an antique tractor club, and see if there are any Oliver collectors around. Someone could possibly have some parts to fix it, or buy it to fix theirs. May not be worth a whole lot as is, but surely a bit more than scrap price...

I've seen people pay big money for things like that so they can put it on the front lawn. I would be tempted to see if I could sell it and buy a used single bottom 3pt plow off craigs list.
