1984 B6100 HST
Hello All, I'm brand new to the forum and I thank you for taking the time to help me out!

I have a 1984 B6100 HST w/ a Woods FEL. I have an opportunity to pick-up a Kubota L4520 Backhoe attachement. I have measured everything up and am very confident (with very slight mods.) it will hook right up. My only question is the GVW of the backhoe (1000lbs). I am concerned that this is to heavy for the rear axle to carry. I have seached for the maximum rear load weight for this tractor, but have had no luck. Since the backhoe is self contained and easily hooked up or removed, I'm not concerned with the general driving it around attached. So, it would be a constant load, but I'm still concerned about the weight. Also, the way it attatches to the rear is through the drawbar receiver at the rear and a subframe to the front. There is no 3pt hitch involvement. Also, the rear tires are not loaded. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Usually the L4520 is on larger L series tractors and the B6100 at 1000 Lbs is a bit light and I think you are justified in thinking it may be too light in the axle dept. But if you do the subframe setup it should distribute the load.

The other aspect is the Hyd pump - normally these older machines have a separate pump ran of the front of the engine to run the FEL and BH - is this the case with your B6100?

Honestly depending on what this costs ($2-4K?) for the BH, and with some of the mods you are facing you might be better off selling your B6100 and getting a little bigger machine.

There is a TBN member josolar selling his 1990-91 B20 TLB for $12.9K located in MA so if you search CL for you should find it.

Hello Carl, Thanks for the quick response!

Just to be clear, the backhoe assy. weighs in at 1,000lbs. Also, it is self contained (own PTO driven pump, hydro. oil tank, seat, etc.). I just want to be reasonably sure hanging that much weight off the back won't be an issue.

I would agree with just upgrading to a bigger machine if I wasn't getting the backhoe for such a great deal.

I understand - your B6100 w/o FEL wieighs 1000 Lbs and the FEL probably 500 Lb range so with a 1000Lb BH you are 2500 Lbs total - which isnt a lot but as I stated before usually that BH was mounted on L185 - L275 frame tractors.

It's still a lot of weight to hang off the back of a smaller tractor. I would call a local dealer and ask a mechanic as I dont think there are many here with a B6100 and BH setup to validate.

BTW thats a great deal $400!

Ahhh...I understand now..I'm a little slow on the up-take.
Though a little bit more encouraged by the total weight not seeming to be a deal breaker, I agree I should look into getting the advise of a Kubota mechanic.
Yeah, the BH is in very good condition and appears to have been used very little. Seller is a nice guy and just wants to get it out of his garage (lucky me).
I hope I can make it work!
Thanks again!

I have a Woods Bh750 mounted on a Kubota B7100. The tractor handles the backhoe just fine. I am not sure what the backhoe weighs. I would guess 750-850 lbs. It is mounted on a sub frame. I would definitely not use a 3 point mount.

I just realized something. A kubota BL4520 is actually a Woods bh650. You said you have a L4520. So if what you have is actually a BL4520 then it is just a 6 1/2' reach of the same backhoe I have on my tractor. It should work just fine.

KubotaSam,

Thats great info you have provided and should give NPD the confidence to go forward with his purchase $400 is a great deal for a BH.

Even tho your 7100 is the next size up NPD BH is the next size down. So you have a collection of 7100's I see - it must be nice to have twins! Do you have a pic of the BH mounted on the 7100?
