Anybody have one of these in their barn or laying in their backyard? My disc is missing one. A co worker told me I won't find one and that I will have to make it out of a trailer axle cut off and welded to a plate. I also need two hubs. I'm gonna start looking at trailer parts.

One last question before I go to bed. How would Y'all fix this hitch? Bare in mind it pivots on the tongue. The egg shaped hole is about 1/4 inch from the edge. Should I just weld plates above and below it? My drawbar pin is pretty long.

you are on the right path now...
i know of a welding and metal fabrication shop in temple...awesome what they can do in little time at very reasonable prices. if it were mine, down here, i'd take it to them and say "fix it".

i'd look for such a shop in your area...not just a welder, but a place with hydraulic punches, shears, drills, etc.

best wishes...when all fixed up, it will be like new and be problem free for years!

If I were fixing it for long term use, I would do the double whammy to it. I would weld up those slotted holes and then scab on another plate on top and bottom to have at least double the plate thickness that is there now. Then it should hold for a life time (disc lifetime that is).
As for the right or left turn, I knew it was only good to turn one direction, but it having been over 50 years since I have seen an offset disc, I just didn't remember which way I used to go. The CRS syndrome is catching up fast.

I bought a 7/8 inch bolt for the wore out 3/4 "slot" and bought a 1 1/8 inch bolt for the wore out 1 inch "slot".
I had a 7/8 inch drill bit and managed to drill out that hole with my cordless 18v Makita.

I bought a 1 1/8 inch drill bit for $51. I couldn't use it to drill out the "slot". So I got out a 1 inch diameter cylinder rotary file and with my high speed pneumatic router, carefully ground out the 1 inch slot into a 1 1/8 inch hole. So for now, I wasted $51 bucks. But may use that bit in the future. Who knows?

Anyway, the Cylinder mount is bolted in place with the aid of a 4 foot cheater pipe.2-21-13 Disc Cylinder Mount Bolted Up.jpg

I then took the complete transport wheel assembly off, as it will go to the machine/welding shop to have a 1.5 inch long slot welded up or have a bushing installed to take it back to a 1 inch hole for the cylinder's aft mount. I had to hold it up by a chain with my loader bucket while we removed the 10 inch long one inch diameter bolts with that above mentioned 4 foot cheater pipe!

The 2 existing stub axles and hubs will have to be replaced. The Amco dealer in Nome, Texas wants over $350 per wheel for wheel, hub, bearings, and axle stub. I can buy a complete NEW trailer axle and hubs, with bearings for $190. That would need to be times 2. The axles will have to be cut down and welded to a 3/4 mounting plate.

So $380 or so plus welding new axle stubs to the mounting plates is way better than $1400. Add in $240 for new rims and I am still better off than buying new from the dealer. No wonder farmers are the McGuyver's of the tractor and implement world!

I got the hole for the cylinder welded up last week and picked it up this week. 3-6-13 Rockshaft Cylinder hole welded up.jpg2-16-13 Disc Wheel Position Bracket Arm.jpg3-6-13 Disc Rockshaft.jpg

I painted it last night and installed it today. I have been in correspondance with an Amco dealer with no help penning down the model number. It took involving an Amco repersentative to figure out the disc is a WOF8, WOF9, or WOF10. He said most parts are out of stock and production. It sure is handy to have a backhoe as a shop crane to lift the rockshaft into position. That thing was almost too heavy for my son and I to move by hand!

But............I had bought new axle stubs, bearings, and hubs from a trailer supply. My local welding shop welded them to new 3/4 inch plates and had them ready for pickup yesterday. I painted them last night and installed them today, adding the hubs and bearings this evening and getting tires back on it to move it outside to wash off and paint in a few weeks.

I was able to screw the rodend on the cylinder out 1/4 inch. That, with the welded hole and bigger diameter mounting bolts did the trick in getting the hydraulics to raise the disc enough to pin the wheels down. Now it is outside to prep for painting.

Thanks. What have you got going on, project wise, in 2013?

Brandi,
I am getting into laser guided leveling with machine control. Basically trying to increase my footprint for custom tractor work in areas with ditch irrigated lands. Seems to be more work laying in pipe and reducing the amount of open ditches. All in all it is a living.

After the rains today, I removed the hitch from the tongue. As you can see, it is dire need for some TLC. The tongue end "box" section is drooping.3-10-13 Disc Hitch.jpg

The lower forward weld looks sick and needs attention.3-10-13 Disc Hitch Tongue Box Right View.jpg3-10-13 Disc Hitch Tongue Box Left View.jpg

The hitch hole is elongated. I think the welding shop will not want to repair this, just make a new one. 3-10-13 Disc Hitch Overhead View.jpg

As you can see it is really a simple assembly. 3-10-13 Disc Hitch Parts.jpg
