Amco Offset Disc

I am getting into laser guided leveling with machine control. Basically trying to increase my footprint for custom tractor work in areas with ditch irrigated lands. Seems to be more work laying in pipe and reducing the amount of open ditches. All in all it is a living.

I think I would weld up the hole and run a reamer through it if it were me. Quick fix.

I live in Ruidoso New Mexico this ditch work is all in the Hondo valley. The Rio Ruidoso running out of the mountains feeds these ditches which irrigate the bottom lands in the valley.


Funny you mention the crawdads as I am a native of New Orleans and a good crawfish bisque would sound real good right now.

I picked up the Tongue and Hitch on Friday. I had the holes repaired in the Hitch and the bottom end of the tongue beefed up. Then I got it painted on Saturday.


While picking up the tongue and hitch, I dropped off the weight balance turnbarrel and spring adjuster nuts. I had made 3 each one half inch rod arms to weld on. They had them ready Saturday, after lunch. I had the length wrong on the turnbarrel and had to cut the arms shorter, do to me getting the swinging geometry wrong. As the turnbarrel shortens, the arms move aft and hit the front gang pivot bolt and nut.


Before I quit for the night, I removed all 4 disc gangs. I had 4 plow bolts spin and had to cut the nuts off with a high speed router and a 3 inch cutoff wheel. Two bolts sheared and the rest came off like designed. So it took a while, but the gangs rolled right off and the bearings all turn like "spinners", with no play in them.


While painting the area of the weigh adjustment turnbarrel, I found a frame crack. Well, now it will be a trailer trip to the welding shop.


So far, I have just used spray bomb paint. I did buy a gallon of Majic IH RED and a pint of hardener. I am not sure if I will spray it or roll it on. I'll get the shop cleaned up and ready to paint later today and plan on finishing the painting next weekend.

Brandi, you are doing a fine job that anybody would be proud of. That is gonna be one sweet disc when you finish. Your efforts are adding a tremendous amount of value to what was an aging sad implement when you brought it home. It will be a happy day when you drag that through some soil for the first time.

Not to be a pessimist, But your 6520 will not be able to make use of that disk to it's fullest capabilities. I think that you will be using the transport wheels for more than just transporting. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

According to Amco.com that disc needs 70-90hp. Tractordata.com says a 6520 is 92hp at the PTO, not sure about drawbar HP. It should be able to handle it depending on the soil conditions.

Wife and son have a Amco F-17 10'6" double offset tandem disk and the CaseIH 5140 2WD handles it fine. It's a heavier tractor but about the same HP.

I'm a bit surprised that the F43 has dual wheels. The F-17 here has singles but they are about 12" wide and it has the optional Shock Absorber Gang Risers.

Her 6520 is not the 6520 that you are thinking about. It is a 65 gross hp Mahindra.

My mistake I was thinking JD, should have looked under the avatar. I gotcha. When my late FIL bought the Amco F-17 the biggest tractor he had was the IH 686 and it wouldn't pull the Amco. He had them install an M&W turbo and that pushed it up to 106hp on the PTO. I more problems with the Amco. He actually pulled a NH 2 row Silage cutter with it. I agree that the Mahindra is going to struggle with it.

Cost of new parts is forcing me to not make it better than new. Take these disc gang mounts in the photos. A few of them have oval holes and some have feathered edges. I saw one pretty new one out of the bunch and it's hole is round. So I'm gonna ignore them for now and change them before their edge rips out.

Thanks. Now, I see you have a Case. Is it Green? Also, if you read all my posts you would have read that I have already pulled it and the Big RED Beast pulled it fine. You would also read, before I pulled it, that I stated I would buy another tractor that could pull it. 2 wheel drive pulling tractors are cheap.

Now for a update on the model. The Amco rep thinks it is a either a WOF8, a WOF9, or a WOF10. I have a basic one page parts breakdown on it and it looks like one of them. But they all look alike with some differences. He guesses it weighs about 3800 pounds.
