Amco Offset Disc

I am not sure what model Amco offset this disc is. I do know it was built in Yazoo City, Mississippi. I am thinking:confused3: it is a vintage F42 model Heavy Duty. It is 8 foot 6 inch wide with 24 discs that are 22 inches in diameter. The discs are on about a 9.5 inch spacing. It is suppose to have dual transport wheels, but only has 2 with tires and one axle assembly missing and one unused axle with no hub. So it needs one axle and two hubs with wheels. I gather this disc is around 4100 pounds. Best I can figure (in my online search) is that it is a F42 Heavy Duty disc. I need help in figuring out the exact model.:anyone:

I won this disc at Richie Brother's Auction in Houston last Wednesday. I bid more ($2500)than I wanted, but now am glad to have it.:cool2: Amco's webpage says a new F42 HD sales for right at $16,000. At least one existing wheel bearing needs replacing. Somebody painted it green, years ago over the yellow. It will be RED very soon.

The closest Amco dealer to me is 2 hours away in Giddings. I hope to stop by there next Friday or the next Friday. So any help will be appreciated. I am new at using an offset disc. I have only used 6 foot 3PH (spelled LITE WEIGHT) in the past. I need advice on how to adjust it on all the various gang settings it has and spring adjustment.:confused2:

It is in the barn now waiting to have the the hoses and cylinder purged today. Yesterday evening I got excited just staring at it's immense size and then got misty eyed thinking of Dad and how many hours he pulled a disc bigger than this one.

Hope your 6520 can pull it.
My 5525 has trouble with my 6.5 ft Towner offset disc in soft soil. It's a pure drag type--no transport wheels like yours.

Nice looking disk and pretty heavy too. Had a 6 1/2' like that years ago and will say those spools between the blades add lots of weight. Sure would like to find another one like I had.

My concern was my 6520 pulling it, also. The guys that sold me my 6520........and that ran a Mahindra 7520 haying and discing, told me my 6520 would pull it and that if it got to hard pulling, to just raise it up with the transport wheels. I'm not too concerned. If my Mahindra is a little on the small side, I'll just buy a dedicated tractor for pulling and 3PH work, as I really like to keep the backhoe on the 6520. Mahindra has that 100 hp tractor out now. Maybe they will come out with a bigger Bradco backhoe to fit it. Also, my neighbor has 100 acres a stone's throw from my back gate and is working up a herd of Black Angus. He has no tractor and says he won't have to buy one now that he knows I am nearby and willing to work for him. This disc will fit into my business/retirement plan nicely.

I stopped at a truck stop to refresh on the way home with it. I looked back at the disc on the trailer and wondered.............will my tractor fit on there with the disc. When we unloaded it yesterday, I purposely backed the tractor over the tongue until it touched the spring "pogo stick" that holds up the hydraulic lines to the cylinder. It just barely fit with the loader lowered after the ramps were stowed, just missing the front tractor tires. Whew...........I thought I was gonna need a longer trailer!

Not to be a pessimist, But your 6520 will not be able to make use of that disk to it's fullest capabilities. I think that you will be using the transport wheels for more than just transporting. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

While not familiar with this particular disc, I would say that the wheels need to be in contact with the ground at all times to control tillage depth. A good match between tractor size and disc size/type doesn't mean that the tractor can always handle the disc when cutting maximum depth. (down to the spools) The tillage depth needs to be controlled by the operator and most hydraulic lifts will include an adjustable depth stop for this purpose.

I agree to you using the word "fullest". I am a firm believer in having too much tractor and now,.... .........that 100 hp Mahindra is looking better and better! I'd even consider a used, different color tractor to have just for pulling. We'll see what the Big RED Beast can pull first!

I agree. This disc does have holes to lock the cylinder lift assembly into different heights (settings) when in the ground. But I realized it will be the remote lever setting the height and fine tuning it. I am not gonna disc with it until I get all 4 wheels back installed.
