Good Morning All,

I have a Mahindra 5010 HST with an auxillary remote on the back end. Can I use that remote as a 3rd for mounting a grapple to my FEL?

I know opening/closing the grapple won't be as convenient as mounting a 3rd up-front with a toggle on my loader joystick, but is there any issue with running hydraulic hoses from back to front? I was told: 1) should NOT run hoses that long and 2) the rear flow rate wouldn't support grapple operation and that I needed to add a 3rd to my FEL. Is this true, or is someone just trying to sell me an unneeded uprade?

Would gladly trade the inconvenience to save the money if I am not going to damage my hydraulics.

Thanks, PmP

You can do it either way. It's just cleaner looking and a lot more convenient with a 3rd function valve kit. Check out our EA Wicket Root Grapples if you haven't already!!

I run a square bale grabber using my rear spool with no problem! $300 for the hoses and couplers was alot cheaper than the $2k the dealer wanted for the 3rd function kit. The hoses do look god aweful though!

Who told you those things? If it was a dealer than go elsewhere! The fluid won't care how long the hoses are, and a grapple cylinder hardly needs any flow at all. 1/4" hoses are all you need, anything larger is a waste of money and space.

Agreed.

X2. Fluid don't care! I like that.

No, not a dealer. Just a neighbor who apparently likes to spend my money! Thanks to all for the advice, PmP

Yup what they say ^ - I had mine with long 1/4" hoses from the rear for a long time. Didn't even look bad. Put a 90 pointing down just after the QDs in back and ran the hose under neath along the frame and then followed the loader hoses up from the hydraulic block to the loader valve and down to the bucket cylinders. Nothing hanging down to get caught and out of sight. Used tie wraps to hook them to frame bracing and loader hoses.

What would control the open and close of the grapple? I have hydraulics on the back of my tractor but no control. Controls are on the hoe for functions.

What you have is called "Power Beyond", a continuous flow of hydraulic oil whenever the tractor is running for things that have their own valves like backhoes and logsplitters.

These guys have a "extra" valve on their machine's to control cylinders on attachments. It's called a "remote" or "SCV"
