Well it's just about that time of year. Need to pick up a 3 point chipper and don't know anything about them.
I have 44 pto hp tractor .so I'm thing I 'll have enough power for a good chipper.

Don't want to break the bank or buy crap. I'll need to chip branches under 4" and will be running about 20 hours a week.

What brand and size is best for my app. Would like to have HYD feeding if it not going to jack the price up to much.

What is working for you guy's ?

Thanks

Search engine is your friend I bought a Wallenstein BMX 42 chipper shredder and really didn't need hydro feed.

If your working it that much 52 weeks a year either get something like a Wallenstein BX42R or 3 of the Chinese clones (Jinma, WoodMax etc).

do a google search

I totally agree on the Bear Cat, but if you are going to do that much chipping you really need a model with a blower. Otherwise you spend all your time clearing the chips out from under it. I have a Bear Cat 4.5 inch model with blower that I no longer see on their site. It's similar to this one - may be the same thing just re-labeled to 5 inch, since mine clearly takes 5" material. I run it on a 29 hp JD 870 with no problems.

Look at Salsco. Well built and bulletproof.

I own a hydro feed Vermeer PTO 6" chipper. They're hard to come by but if you can find one they are will last you forever. It's built like a tank and weighs 1400lbs.
Model is a 606.

Do you have power beyond hydraulics?

I was looking for a used Wallenstein 62R (hydro) as my first choice. Reason I like that chipper is because it can take up to a 12" wide slab, even though its only 6" diameter capacity. I have a sawmill and this would be very helpful for my slabs, but I came across a deal on the Vermeer that I couldn't pass up and I'm glad I did. It's definitely the most "commercially" built PTO chipper I came across.

Do you mind me asking what you do that will require 20hrs a week of chipping? That sure is a lot, and with that much chipping, don't even consider one without hydro feed.

You have plenty of power for a 5" or 6" chipper so I wouldn't go less than that.
