Just received a couple of new furrowers for some attachments that I am building and have this rookie question. Are these treated like other tools we buy, such as a shovels, in such that they need to be sharpened before use? They do have a bevel on the cutting edge but not sharp by any means. Thanks.

I'm not much more than a rookie myself, but I can tell you that after running them through the soil a bit, they will take on a gently rounded edge. So putting a sharp edge on them doesn't seem terribly important, but maybe someone else has a different opinion. Personally, I'd get them in the ground and see how well they work before altering them.

I only can echo what baby grand said - the constant rubbing in soils will only round over metal. So I don't think you need to sharpen tractor stamped parts. If it was a casted part - maybe yes .

It will be fine like it is.

You sharpen shovels?

why not? makes it easier to sever roots of a plant when diggin. I have more then one shovel so no need to sharpen them all.
