It is becoming difficult find to find a worthwhile 3pt, 1 or 2 bottom used moldboard plow from Ford, John Deere, International Harvester and others. When you do, they are as expensive as the tractor they were originally sold with. There were countless hours spent by the tractor companies designing the old plows. Some pulled hard, while others were noted for easy pulling, no matter what color your tractor was. I do not have plans for plowing 500 acres each spring again, but I would like a decent plow nonetheless.

Just how bad or good are the new breed of moldboard plows from Howse, Leinbach or anyone else?

Is there a standout 3pt, 1 or 2 bottom moldboard plow being made today?

I replaced my Dearborn 2 bottom with a King Kutter due to lack of parts availability for the old plow. Pulls about the same but I don't like the bottom design of the KK (its made in India - at least that's what the decal says) and I will be making some mods this year. Shortly after I bought mine Everything Attachments came out with their plow. I would have given that one serious consideration except for timing. Take a look at their videos to get an idea - I remember looking at the video they posted here when they first introduced their design. Since they handled short line equipment before coming up with their own design, I assume they know all the weak points and design them out.

MHarryE,

Whether it just visual or not, ETA looks to be wider between the frames than King Kutter. I do like the fit and finish on the ETA plow, just a little more of a professional build.

Ditto Allen's advice. Go with the old. Sweet's has a real good selection. I see you're from Ohio. Lot's of good used plows in your state every time I've ever looked around. Some states seem to have more than others. Check Craigslist and Ebay. Just make sure of what you're getting - some of the old plows you can no longer get wear parts for, while others the parts are plentiful and cheap.

allen and nspec,

I have focussed my search locally(50 miles) so far. Primarily I have sought out Ford 101s because I know their reputation and know all wear parts are still available. Thus far I have been a day late or found a "Hoyt Clagston" plow painted blue that someone has tried to pass as a Ford.

I just wanted re-enforcement about continuing my search for an older plow.

New plows are not worth carrying home. Below is a link to our used plows with terminal or commercial business shipping included in the price to Ohio. Ken Sweet

They'll be tons of used stuff around in another month or so. How bad you want it determines how far to look, I guess. Also, if you know what type of ground you're into, perhaps wear parts aren't a huge issue. I have a Ferguson that I wouldn't trade for the world. I was able to get a moldboard, but I know that's it. I also know that I'll never wear it out for what I use it for, so as long as I don't break the point I'm all set.

Here's one in your area:

You should definitely go old. I went through the same dilemma, got a ford 101 3-bottom for $350(not shiny but works great).

Call around to tractor implement dealers. These things are not usually on the Internet in my experience.

Plows

Well.......maybe many new plows that are manufactured/sold today aren't worth carrying home but there are still really good plows being made. There are even high quality low profile plows for subcompacts and small compact tractors being made. Plowing has been in Ted's family for generations and he takes it seriously!!
