3 pt single shank sub-soilers

Max depth is around 18-22 inches and soil type is medium/heavy clay/clay loam. Here are a couple photos:

That Tuffline is a beautiful ripper and maybe the best I have ever seen. Sure looks rugged.
What a great tool for drainage and breaking hardpan.

It will do that due to the pivoting top link attachment arm I don't mind it. Just reach back and pull the top towards the seat (may need to attach a rope) as you lower it to the ground.
I suppose you could put a put a couple of washers between the top arm and shank and tighten down the bolt, but it really is designed to pivot.

Thank you, Foodplot. From what I understand the pivoting was getting on his nerves. I'll pass on your suggestions.

Over the last 35 years of selling equipment, we have used both of these subsoilers and for under 40 HP tractors the Fred Cain is the best we have ever used on our farm and for bigger tractors, we like the 1S-28 Tufline best. The parabolic shank on the Tufline drafts into the ground very well. Ken Sweet

Well I warned ya fellas, NOT good with pics when in the heat of the build but here is a few...

Used 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch through out, not to mention the 1x4 inch "shank". The angle is 1/4x2, lower link pin holes 1/4 t-1, top link material 3/8", back support straps 3/8x1-1/2. The shoe support which is not finished yet, material is 1/2 inch.

The "shank" was warmed up with the torch right before welding the hardware to it to aid in weld penetration. Not no expert, but that seems to REALLY help with such heavy of material for good weld strength.

I designed the shoe mount after the deere and LS sub-soilers. Plan on making a shoe to those specs from a leaf spring.

When all is all done, it will turn deere green unless something of more importance roles around

The lower link connection points would seem to be weak link on your build. Are you concerned about the plate on angle strength? What about the sheer force exerted on the angle with the ripper in the ground?

Looks good, just want to make sure it'll work as planned.

I do not know the shear resistance of 1/4" t-1 steel, Thinking its more than I can put on it with my 790 tractor with sane, normal use that is

I did think about the lower links integrity, I am just going to try it and if there is hiccups with them I will just have to start over with them and go with some 1/2".
