I saw it on CL from a dealer in a nearby town. I don't know what brand of PHD it is, the ad didn't say. I've not seen one that had the 4 little "blades" like this one does, all the ones I've seen had the spiral flights that cover about 2/3rds of the auger. It just seems like those blades could get bent if it hit a rock going in, or maybe get bent if it caught a big root when bringing it up out of the hole. Just curious about them is all.....

I've never seen one like that either...... And I'm not sure if I care for it! I don't see how it would pull dirt as well as a conventional auger. I'm gonna have to do some research....

It's a King Kutter according to the one in the crate behind it. That is an odd looking auger....wonder if it works. They must be keeping it a secret because I haven't heard about it. I'll see if Ted has.

Ted didn't know anything about it either but he wants to see a video of the auger working.

I am sure it will work, how well that is the question. I too would be concerned about it bending as those little blades don't look all that thick. Perhaps the manufacturer has found a better way than an auger to move dirt. The only way to know would be in-field testing in both clayey soils and rocky soil.

It should work the same if you keep the auger turning when you raise it.

Maybe used to cut through roots better.

They call this a cut flight auger.

the angle of the lowest portion of the bit. (not the point on the very end) is almost flat. i gotta wonder, if it is designed to drill straight down, then turn off PTO and then raise, vs normally keeping the PTO/PHD running while ya raise it up to clean hole out.

one thing i dislike about PHD, when cleaning out the hole. if auger hits something on the lift, the entire auger bit begins wobbling and beating the leaving day lights out of the sides of the hole, and then begins knocking dirt back down. what things make it worst, is PHD, when lowered do not go straight down, like a drill bit, in a drill press, but rather a curved path.

perhaps the 2 sets of blades higher up. are an attempt to keep things centered, and help direct the bottom end of auger bit. and at same time, when pulling up. not have a like spiral blade/path, that nails every single little thing on the sides.

If the speed is high enough........one would think that it would make a pretty decent paint mixer even if it won't dig holes.
