Anyone have any experience with these? I was originally looking at a 60" or 72" finish mower but my yard isn't really all that flat. It's not rough by any means, but very knolly, if that makes sense. I'm just afraid that a finish mower might be too wide and scalp some spots while not cutting into the valleys of others. I like how the gang mowers move independently and seem to follow the contour of the ground a little better. I'm just curious if anyone has any experience with these types of mowers. Are they something I should stay away from or do you think they're worth the $$. The house I just bought has about 2 1/2 acres of yard and my rider only has a 42" deck. Just looking to speed up the mowing time a little. Got the new tractor, might as well use it..

why not add one of these behind your existing mower

you have a real tractor?

although my guess is its priced about the same as small island.

personally... id box blade the "knolly's" out fill with low spots with sand and get a 72" MMM or RFM

Having worked on golfcourse for a number of years I'm familiar with these type gang mowers. They really require smooth ground as the blades of the reels will encounter the ground and then you'll have to dismount and manually unclog the reel mechanism. They are a pain to keep adjusted properly and if adjusted properly they are self sharping. Once you get familiar with using them they are very effective.....good luck!

I have one, no problems with scalping, sometimes you need to go over areas twice, not a problem for me. Only issue I have with it is that is frequently hangs up on twigs and sticks. Was a pain when pulling with Craftsman 42", More troublesome when using Farmall H as Harder to get off and on. I usually wait to use it for the first time in the spring/summer until I've been able to cut and bag with the Craftsman to remove as much debris as possible. Using my 6' brush mower first didn't pulverise everything like I hopped would happen.

If you want a continuous golf course finish they are what you want BUT saying that
they are not very forgiving with tall grass if it gets away from you due to an extended
rainy period and they wil not shred tall grass or short grass after it has been cut and
its "butts ugly" to look at to quote Tom and Ray.

For a little more money you can invest in a Caroni flailmower for your Massey and mow wet or dry
and the full length rear roller will stripe your lawn at no extra charge with zero scalping as long
as the mower is set up correctly.

I have a towed motorised flailmower and I use it more than my belly mower because the cut is better
and the grass clippings decompose quickly.

About your rider and belly mower if you mow in a continuous spiral you avoid braking and backing
up for turn arounds so think about that as well because stopping braking and turning consumes a
lot of time in the scheme of things when mowing.
