Working on some ballast ideas.

Tractor-specific weights are about a dollar per pound. That's crazy.

So instead, a few emails on craigslist, one hour of driving around, maybe 2 gallons of gas, and I get this nice pile at around 30 cents per pound.

Okay, so I realize I need to figure out how to mount all these, and they're not as dense as straight iron, but, I'll figure it out. I think I can just mount them all on the one lift bar, and lay them across the back of the box blade. Might have to strap it down some.

Can't wait to try out my box blade with another 200 pounds hanging off the back end though!

I don't have a problem with things that work, and they can be made to work. good idea and good find.

Did something similar by just welding a few bars vertical and sliding them down over it. Works very nicely.

Love that your user name is "scrounger"! I am turning into one myself. Don't have a welder yet, once my new home/garage is built it will become a mandatory addition to my tool collection. Then I can really scrounge it up!

I lucked out with a serious weight find, like you, from a weight set, but these were from a big bucks Universal
Gym weight set someone must have gotten tired of. It had gone to the salvage shop and my BIL snagged the weights for me, when
he was doing work for the scrap company. About 400 pounds of interlocking, no wobble rectangles. Now I wish we had gone back for a second load. Boy those things are handy. I hose them down with WD40 occasionally and they will surely outlast me.

ok, did a test fit last night. not too pretty, and will surely pack up with dirt, but i think it'll work.

Make sure this iron won't spread out your box blade :laughing::laughing:. But the symmetrically located weights look great :thumbsup:.

Good thinking there, and it looks good too. But this method of adding weight gives you an advantage, after you get through working out the tractor moving dirt with the boxblade, you can unstrap the weights and have a good workout yourself!!
