I have a 1989 Wheelhorse 312-8 tractor. I want to replace 05-37SC01 mower deck, anyone familiar with this unit or know where one can be purchased? I have seen a 42 inch deck, but they are asking $1G, too rich for me, two more I can get a zero.

If you have the original deck, you could probably replace all the bearings and weld up holes in the deck somewhat.
Or, if it is too far gone, you may be able to adapt the mounts to other mowing decks. It appears as if the Wheel Horse is a 3 blade deck, I think, while many JD and related decks are 2 blade decks. But, it might be possible to adapt a newer deck to your machine.

I am seeing a few Wheel Horse decks and parts on E-Bay, but shipping will definately be a pain. And still, they may not be a perfect match.

Too bad we don't live closer... I have a near new 42" I was going to put on my 310-8, for at the other farm. Selling the other farm, and no need for it now. Both of the 310-8's I have, have the 36" rear discharge, and will work better here where I am now.

The spindles are higher than what's on what I have, and pulley's are different. The local dealer told me the decks are all the same, just used different spindles, on different models. I was going to just change out, from what I have, or get new spindles for it.

Again, if shipping weren't so high... I've got $300.00 in it, and would gladly sell it for that, now that I don't really need it.

After some searching I was able to find the replacement deck. The 05-37SC01 was replaced by the 92-7289. The cost is $600 for the frame alone, will need to transfer components or buy new. I have gone the CliffordK route; have to keep patching. $300 is a great price DJ54, wish I could drop by and pick it up. Ask your local dealer if he would crate it and ship it to a dealer here in SC., and the cost.

Actually I bought the deck on epay, but asked the dealer before hand on buying it.

And now I'm thinking the pulley's are what need changed on it, not the complete spindle. With prices the way they are, and me figuring on keeping both for a long time yet, it may be well worth hanging on to. Never fails when I sell the spare I'll never need, I'll need it next week..., LOL...

Yeah, I did some patching on the one deck a few years ago(Love my little Lincoln 125 for that..!!),and replaced the spindles. It came from my grandparents place near a power plant along the Ohio River. The cast aluminum parts of the spindles were eaten away. Thinking it has to do with the flyash fallout. Both tractors were bought at the same time by my Dad, with consecutive serial numbers. His was used more then the other, but the cast aluminum, and deck on his is still good. Go figure...

aej,

Yes, Wheel Horse parts are expensive, but unlike most other garden tractors, their parts are usually available. Any Wheel Horse mower deck from around 1972 will fit onto your tractor. That means if you find a mower deck in good condition somewhere, chances are very good it will fit your tractor. As you said, it will cost $3000 plus to replace your tractor with a lesser tractor/ mower.

I found three old Wheel Horse deck shells and combined them to make one new deck. Cost was about $50 verses $1100 for a new deck. Try that with Cub Cadet or Deere.
