Rear Blade 1/2 inch Milwaukee hand held drill

Good Day All;

This question is not related to my attachement but my hand held drill I was using to drill a hole for a 3 pt hitch. I was drilling through 1/2 inch mild steel with my hand held Milwaukee drill using a 7/8 inch bit. I managed to bend something as the drill now has a wobble. It sounds fine, just wobbles.

My question is this, is it worth repairing. It is basically new and cost about 200 bucks so I'm hoping someone out there has knowledge about repairing the drill.

Easy enough to repair if you want. The Milwaukee stuff is usually easy to tear down and get parts for. Milwaukee had parts diagrams on their web site.
Have you taken the chuck off and see if the spindle wobbles? A 7/8 bit would be pretty wicked in a hand drill. Lucky it didn't break your hand

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did hurt a bit. I actually wrecked the bit as well, broke it! I was hanging on fairly tight when it jammed. My wrist took the most stress. Those puppies have a fair bit of power!!

I'm hoping a part replacement will do the trick, otherwise my "free ballast box" (given to me) will have cost me more than I thought. I borrowed the bit and the replacement was 32 bucks. Oh well, now that I've started renovating this thing I'm not going to stop. My stupid pride!

I have had Porter Cable and Milwaukee pistol grip drills almost break my wrists before doing just what you were attempting. I now use a Milwaukee Hole Hog right angle drill for this type work. An easier bit to use with the pistol grip drills would be a 7/8" hole saw, you can turn that in a 1/2" cordless drill and is quite a bit safer to use.

Somewhere around I have a (I think) a 1/2" Milwaukee that the armature is burnt up. I'll take a look to see if I can find it. I'm guessing, don't know for sure, that the spindle is a different piece. It was given to me so if it'll work for you you're more than welcome to it. I ended up getting a Hole Hog so none of the parts are the same, maybe the chuck is.

So I found it. The model number is 0234-1 (I think it's a 1 after the dash). It has the removable cord and the trigger is longer than normal. Here's a part's list for the drill I have.

The chuck (not keyless) is a little stiff to turn by hand (without the key) but it looks like it's more just from sitting around than anything. Looks like the spindle is about $20 so it shouldn't be too expensive to repair with new parts. The chuck isn't cheap though.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, your parts list is for my model of drill. I'm inclined to think it is a bent spindle. The cost to replace according to your list is 20 bucks. I am going to have a friend who knows something about these to check it out. If it turns out it is more than the spindle I'll get back to you about your offer. By the way, thanks for your input as it is very much appreciated.
