Looks like your Ford is somewhere between the JD 3010 and the 3020 in horsepower. Depending upon the size of the sweeps and if your tires are filled and if the ground ain't all clay gumbo.. I'd guess you'd be lookin' at a 10' - 12' chisel plow.

They pull hard if they're put into the ground too deep on the first pass! Kinda like a breaking disc or disc plow. By the 3rd pass; you should be able to shift up a couple of gears! :)

I've not seen a 12" cut on a five bottom plow in years! Most common is 16,18 or more. I'd keep it light behind a 6000 ford! Find a four bottom or on the chisel plow side find a seven shank three point.

Agree on the 7 shank chisel. We used to pull a 9 shank with a 4020 it was all that tractor wanted.

I don't recall exactly; but, the shanks were probably around 18" apart. So, a 9 shank chisel would be about 14' overall width, yes? Also, the sweeps (or plow points) made a huge difference in how hard the chisel pulled! Big sweeps - darn hard pullin' - even a 7 shank model.

Pretty straight chisel point - not a hard pull really - but, it didn't turn over the ground much either.

9 shank chisel, 1 ft spacing. 9 ft wide with 4 inch wide twisted shovel points, called mini-moldboards. Hard to pull but buried almost all the residue.

I agree with others who recommended a 7 shank.

My only comment to this is the fact that if the 5 bottom you are referring to is a moldboard, the two implements that you mentioned do entirely different jobs.

as said the 5 bottom plow an chisel plow are differant.the 5 bottom plow is used to breakup ground that hasnt been plowed in years.the chisel plow is used behind the plow to bust up the ground deep an bust the hardpan.now for the tractor,a commander has about 70hp.i wouldnt hold my breath on it pulling the plow or chisel deep in the ground.but it might pull it.but you really need 100hp tractor to pull emm with ease.
