Hello all,
I have tired of planting my 2-acre food plot of sunflowers and sorghum by hand. I am looking for a planter to save me a lot of time. However, I cannot find one locally (Sussex Co., DE). All that I have been able to find is 3 rows (too expensive) or it comes 'as is' and is more parts than planter. In recent research, I have discovered the existence of new planters in the form of Cole, Covington and Yetter. Searching the archives here, I found some discussion of the Cole multiflex and Covington, but not much on the Cole Planet Jr or Yetter. Is the Planet Jr a sturdy enough unit or is it mainly for small garden use? For their website pics, Yetter would seem to be the high end of the options. Are they more expensive? My tractor is a Kubota L3400. My soil is easy to work with once it dries out so no issues with clay or rocks. Please offer any and all opinions. Thanks.

Birdbrain,

Have you looked on "Tractorhouse" Or "Fastline" for a used planter.

A second idea. Do you know anyone else searching for a planter, that you can split the cost and each take one or two planters off of the unit and mount onto a toolbar?

If you already have a tool bar for your tractor you can purchase a single planter box from an implement dealer. The planters are chain driven off the packer wheel, so there is no need for any added drive system. In this area of south La. the main crops are corn and soybeans ,so all dealers handle single boxes so farmers can add extra boxes to double row beans, then pull added boxes to plant corn. Most setups also come with the fertilizer hopper mounted behind the seed hopper so you can sidedress as you plant. If there are any crop farmers in your area chances are they might have an old set of planters that are no longer used and would part with one or two boxes for a fraction of what you would spend on a new one. For an implement that only gets used at most twice a year what you saved on a used box would go a long way toward a new toy that you use more often.
