This log is 4 foot long and 2 foot 9 inches in diameter exactly. Weighs upwards of 2000 pounds. I hauled 6 of these to a different location on the property and had to steer with the brakes because of the front end kept going in the air. Good buy in my opinion. the second picture is after I moved the logs. no damage whatsoever

From what I can see, I'm going to say mine is just the same carrier......
Rugged to a fault, and has been very useful.

I can only think the rating put on is under circumstances you would have to work really hard to duplicate.
And then the numbers would be "massaged" by there legal eagles to "CYA".......

Good luck

Good luck

Yeah we'll that makes a lot of sense about the rating

If they're really built properly, they have to be able to hold almost all of the rated weight on just one arm in case it's loaded wrong, or the load has a funny shape that's heavier on one side, and prevents you from centering it.

I am surprised that they can carry twice the rated capacity. It must be the green paint;)

Man that is a heavy log you have on there especially with no bolted on deck to prevent the rails from twisting. I tested mine at 1000 lb and was afraid to go more. Seeing that load you have makes me think I worry to much. I would have guessed that log was about 1500 lbs what kind of wood is it? I thought it looked like white oak maybe.

I have an old one that came with the farm. It does not have the plate across the back. The upright bent at the hitch pin when I tried to lift a load of rocks. I need to reinforce it.

To the OP, you need a second log like that on the front forks to balance the load ;-)

I've been wondering if big logs like that are worth the effort for firewood. They are doing power line clearing here for a new line and I've gotten some monster logs (30"+).

The carryalls are strong, but I am not so sure I am comfortable with the idea of putting a big log on there unchained, especially if it was causing the front wheels to come off the ground. In that scenario, you are a hair away from a pretty dramatic upset if you drop a tire into a rut or soft spot, or drive across a big root or other obstacle. You can't think about "static" balance with tractors, because you're always a hair away from trouble once they get in motion with an asymmetric load.

I very much agree about your concerns, a light front end is on the margin of disaster. OTOH, the having the log unchained will at least give it a chance to roll off if something drastic happens! ;-)

I welded a chain hook on the top of the carryall for chaining the logs on like you mention. I didn't wind up using it because I wound up just tilting the carry all back with my hydraulic top link. However, the load did shift and sent it unbalanced. I will be chaining the remainder of the logs. This is indeed a very big tree the power company took down.
Also I had my hand on the 3pt lever in case I had to do a quick drop of the load
