Bucket Tooth Bar

Looking to buy a tooth bar for the bucket on my Deere 855 4wd (2000 lb. / 25 hp). I'm using the model 52 loader (heavier of the two options available for the 855), and I *think* it's a 54" bucket (gotta measure tonight).

Basically interested in opinions of clamp-on vs. bolt-on, the bolt-on variety usually requiring the drilling of a hole in either side-wall of the bucket.

Primary use would be for grading, and some occasional light digging. Would be interested in knowing pro's and con's of each design.

I have never seen the type of clamp on in your first image. I have 2 sets of the bolt on type from Iowa Farm Sales and they work great.

Yeah, it was new to me, but the few reviews I've read of them seem to be glowing.

The bolts used on the clamp on will soon get damaged and if left will rust in place.
The other style, bolt on, has the bolts out of the way. On my home made bolt ons I used 3/8" and they stood up well, after all they are there simply to retain position of the bar.
From the pics of the clamp on style has the teeth simply bolted to the bar while most other style are well welded to the bar.
I have rolled or flipped boulders twice the size of my bucket and the 3/8 retaining bolts have not suffered in the least. In fact I am thinking of drilling and using 1/8" spring clips rather than bolts and nuts.

FYI, in the location that the 2 holes need to be drilled, the metal is simply mild steel and drilling easy. Only cutting edges are hardened steel.

Same here....I can only imagine the bolts in picture one getting trashed easily.

Take a look at the Pirnha. It is a bolt on, but it's a good tooth bar. BXpanded Piranha Tooth Bar

I put a bolt on toothbar when I purchaesd in '03 and have never taken it off. when i need to smooth grade usually the boxblade is on and it does what a smooth bucket would.
