    Sounds like you need a scaled down version of a paper roll clamp for a fork truck.

    Those can clamp AND rotate 360 degrees.

    I think the clamping is the easy part for what you want. But the ability to rotate increases the complexity (if going homemade) by about 10x's

    On a somewhat similar note, I thought a good grapple for clear brush would be a vertically oriented grapple. Maybe be designed with three or four smaller pinch points acuated in unison with one cylinder if that makes any sense.
