I just purchased a 10 foot rotary cutter made by International Machine. It is very heavy duty, very thick steel, and I got it with safety chains. I had to set it up myself, but thats ok. It actually runs smoother than my 6 foot cutter and does a nicer job. I can tell you though that a 60 hp tractor is not quite enough hp to pull it with on hills of any size. You can gear down to first or second, but to keep any kind of speed up, gonna need more horses. The stuff I was cutting I cut about a month ago, so it wasn't real tall, but was pretty thick. On the open pretty flat areas it gets along just fine. Can cut in high range first gear. I did get the pull type.
Question...the two arms that come from the back of the mower (where the wheels are) come forward and connect to the hitch hinge. There are three holes in the arms that come forward. One on top and two on the bottom. What difference does it make which hole you use?
Also, it says to use 90w gear lube in the gear boxes. I went to TSC and they have 90w-145w and 80w-90w oil. Which one should I use and does brand make a differnce? They sell Travelers. AND...it did not come with a jack as I have seen others that have them stored on the deck. Whats the best way to disconnect in a position that will be easy to connect for next use?

Some Q's from a dumb new tractor owner. Is a 10' cutter a single spindle? I would assume it was two, but I have not seen one that big.

Oh and would something like that work with my 8N? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Slippy--(From a previous post)--The 8 has a notorious
streaking problem and the Super 10 actually does somewhat better than the 8. We stock
the smaller sizes of this brand and have had no problems with them. For strictly brush
work the 8 or 10 will do fine and for finish they rate poorley--We now sell other brands in these sizes, to avoid inherient problems in the 8 and 10 ft series--For what it is worth, we
have a IMC Super 10 pull type in our shop currently for service. Replacing a broke blade, 2
input seals, 2 rubber torque pads and tailwheel bearing on 1 side. Unit is 3 years old.--The 3 holes, you mentioned, are used to adjust the tongue height so you wont need a jack. Just back into the clevis and drop the pin--You will get acceptable cutting finish with these machines when cutting low and slow--higher cuts (over 6 inches) and normal speed equals streaking, especially when the blades begin to loose thier edge--I still have the same before mentioned IMC Super 10 down in our shop awaiting 2 new torque pads from IMC (on back order now for 30 days and still no definate date for arrival))--When you need repair parts? We usually stock most common wear items for that series--Best of luck--Ken Sweet

Ken, just wonderin'....I have 7Ft International with the twin tail wheels. What's your assessment of this model. I noted that you said that under the 8 ft was "no problem". Just wanted to confirm if I need to be aware of any inherent problems down the road. Thanx, BobG in VA

Hello Bob--No inherient problems with that IM 702 mower--One of the best in the series--I cleared a 30 acre field with one of those about 10 years back on a 8000 Ford cab tractor--I ran Low second and mowed anything that I could push over--Had to really watch for cedar and sasafras stumps the next 3 years--Problem stobbing tires on the tractors !!--Ken Sweet

Ken:
Does the adjustment in the arms effect how the unit is leveled? In other words, should it set level or should the front end be higher than the back?

s1150:
The cutter has one drive shaft that hooks into a middle gear box. On each side of the gear box there is a spindle that goes to each of the outside gear boxes. Three gear boxes, two spindles, two sets of blades. My tractor is a 60hp, 50pto and it takes everything it has to pull this beast. I don't think I would like to be pulling it on an 8n. Don't know the hp rating, but it is a smaller framed tractor and for that reason alone I would not pull it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
