I checked the fluid in the trans and it was low so i took it up to the level. Just noticed today I used the hyd.oil for my 12000lb car lift its

ISA 46 fluid Not my trans hydro oil It has been ran with this oil in it so it is all through the system. what is the proper steps in flushing this all out.

Have a 72 ford 4500 backhoe 4 speed auto reversing trans

once again thanks for any input

How much of the wrong oil did you add?

What oil do you typically use and how long since it was last changed? That nice clean ISO 46 which doesn't have any necessary additives might not be the worst thing in there.

I added about two gallons and I usually use TSC's hydro oil

The first (aka easiest) way to do it would be to just drain the fluid and change the filter like you would any other time, refill with the correct stuff and not worry about it. After all, the wrong stuff would be pretty diluted at that point.

The second choice would be to loosen EVERY last hose fitting you can get to and let them drain completely and/or repeat the the easy way twice.

I personally would chose the first route, not because its the easy way but because the other fluid will be so diluted by then it probably will not make a difference.

Might want to drain & filll twice as a significant percentage of the transmission's capacity is trapped in the torque converter and can't be drained. Don't forget to swap out the filter, part # 86546606.
