Looking at a Terex 760 backhoe. 700 hours, Year 2005. Are these machines any good? Looking for some feedback. Is there any backhoe that you can recommend? Planning to use around the farm.

Ive worked on construction equipment for 20+ years.. There are 2 brands of backhoe I would try to avoid if I was going to buy one. JCB being one of them and terex the other... The terex is a good strong heavy machine and there is no one specific problem they have but they are more problem prone IMO than other brands such as deere and cat. They are not as hard as JCB to get parts for but again, not as easy as finding a Deere or Cat part. I like a lot of the Terex equipment. Their cranes are good, the manlifts are good, the backhoes would not be my first choice and their rubber tire loaders are at the bottom of any list.
That is very low hours on the one you are looking at. Unless its just too good of a deal to pass up id suggest to look at another one...

Thanks for your input. I can buy a cat 416 or case 580 for the same price , but they have 5 or 6 thousand hours on them. Would you buy a high hour case or cat or 700hrs Terex. The asking price for the Terex is $28,000 is that to much? Please keep in mind that I live in Canada and we have to pay to much for everything. What would you do. I will probably only put 150 hrs a year on it .I am a mechanic and I can repair it myself but I am not looking to buy a headache.

When I was shopping for a backhoe in 2005 I could have bought a new 760B cab with air and extendahoe for 46.000. As I best remember the OS model was $36,000+ with extendahoe. Eight years later I think you should be able to get the price a little lower say $25,000. I rented one for a month on an out of town job and it worked well enough but ultimately decided to go with the smaller 110tlb as it is easy to transport.

I would buy a higher hour deere or cat before I would buy the terex if it were me... We have machines with well into the 10-12K hour range on them... using one only 150 hrs a yr a 5k hour machine will last you a heck of a long time.
You can actually in the US at auctions run across some nice ones in the $14-17k range that also should last you forever. Id prefer a 10-12 yr old machine over a newer one myself for the ease of maintaining.
Most of the newer ones have large integrated circuit/relay boards and are not cheap at all if one burns up. terex has a nice large one under the cover on the front of the right fender... take those 10 or 12 screws out and look at one.

A 10 or 12 yr old machine, with you being a mechanic is very simple electronically just as a older tractor is compared to a new one.

Ive borrowed and used a 760 from work a bunch and its done what I wanted it too but still would shy away from one. Most Cat parts are guaranteed next day delivery to your dealer. Deere is not far behind them...
I have seen parts for terex wheel loaders take 6 months to become available from England or where ever it is they are built at.
