New Land Pride SGC 2072 Root Grapple

I've been researching root grapples since I bought the Kubota L5740 back in December. I've sent many of you folks private message and read a ton of threads here on TBN.. I decided on this Land Pride for several reasons, but was a little concerned about the weight (880 lbs. I believe) but it seems like it will be fine for my needs.. I tried it out as soon as I got it on with no ballast except the loaded tires, and it is quite heavy, so I remembered the old ballast barrel my brothers made for our old IH 2000 about a hundred years ago.. Dug it out and put it on this morning and it's much better balanced.. I haven't tried lifting anything too heavy, but have a plan to add more ballast weight if needed, and it will be removable.. OK, I know that pictures are mandatory here on TBN so I'll try :smile:. Thanks for looking, love this forum !!!


Testing it out Sunday before adding ballast..Needs ballast for sure, so went real easy.

Much better now..


I figure this is somewhere between 300-400 lbs. but really don't know. Planning to modify it to add removable weights.

I'm amazed that land pride root grapple is that heavy, a testimony to how heavy duty it is.
Having put a solid bucket grapple on the same tractor, with unpleasant results, I'm glad your open
grapple is working well for you.

Just bought a plain standard bucket for my tractor to better deal with dirt and gravel.
I wish I had done your research before I originally bought. The dealer knew I wanted a "good one" but
eight to nine hundred pounds way out front on our tractor, whose rear end is a bit light..., is challenging.
Lots of ballast needed. Did you fill your rear tires?

Thanks !! Yes, the tires are filled.. I also have a plan to use an old steel weight set that's been laying around here for years.. I'm going to weld a pipe off the top link mount and angle it up so I can drop the steel weights on as needed.. I may have to build a bigger barrel, but we'll see.. Time will tell if it's too heavy duty, but seems fine so far..

I didn't either until talking to the OP, sure would have come in handy when we first got our farms. I'd still kind of like to have one for our M8540 the cost is a bit more than I can stand for what we have left; very nice unit though.
