Hello

I am hoping to use a cultivator for food plot soil prep. The unit i have access to is a Dearborn cultivator about 7 feet wide. How will my 1963 ford 4000 (gas) pull it? Soils have some clay content. I am hoping this implement will let me work faster than my 3 bottom plow. Any advice is welcome.

Thank you.

I've never saw one of those. When I read your post I thought you were talking about a cultivator used to lightly till soil between rows of planted crops. I can't tell for sure but this looks like some sort of chisel plow. If the shanks are long and designed to do heavy tilling it's gonna put a load on your tractor. But the good thing is all you gotta do is raise it a bit until you can pull it and then come back thru with it set deeper.

If you get it out of the ground so we can see the shanks, take another picture. Again, I've never saw one of those and I grew up around small Ford equipment as well as a later model Ford 4000. Thanks and good luck!!!

Thanks for the quick reply. I believe i found the unit in an old manual that stated it was a dearborn cultivator. I will try for more photos.

Thanks

We use those extensively in tobacco here in Ky. We also sell them. They are called "Field Cultivators". Sometimes, if a older cultivator is worked hard, the springs may come off the anchor bolts and they are expensive to replace. I suggest you tie a small wire around each spring and the other end to the cultivator frame. If one comes off, you will be able to save it and put it back on. Ken Sweet
