I just got a new woods mower and need to shorten the pto shaft, My problem was the female tube half has a collar welded near end to support the outer safety shield. You cant cut the end off without getting into that collar, SO can I press the yoke off the other end and shorten it that way? It is a comer brand shaft. Anybody run into this before? Thanks

Have you asked the dealer to trade you for a shorter shaft?

If it was me and I had to work with that one, I'd cut it on the other end or take some out of the center section so all your hardware is in place where it is needed. Usually drive shafts are balanced. Mark the shaft so it wont get turned, make sure the two cut off sections are mated back together without turning either piece. And pay attention trying to not let your weld get thick in places making it off balance. You may not be perfectly balanced but I think it would be close enough.

The two halfs slide into each other no welding required, These shafts are shorted all the time, this one just has a collar that I have not seen before.

I second the recommendation to simply trade it for a shorter version
