I have a B2630 with a RC72-30B mowing deck. I have replaced the blades and attached them such that the cutting edge is on top but I am not sure that is correct. The manual is not clear. In other words I have it setup such that looking at the underside with the front of the deck on the top the blades would need to spin clockwise to cut. Is this correct? This seems to agree with the manual except the manual has the discharge on the right while mine is on the left, looking at the underside. If my blades spin clockwise the blade closest to the discharge cuts away from the discharge which does not seem right. Plus the cut now looks like crap. The best thing would have been to remember how they were when I took them off but that would have been way too easy.

BTW I love this mower. The bucket has been incredibly useful and I found things to use it for that I never would have thought of before I had it.

If the blades have a bent lip on the side opposite the cutting edge the bent side goes towards the top of the deck.

Cutting edge goes on the bottom. You said the discharge is on the left, looking at the underside. Does this mean it is on the right when seated on the tractor (normal mower deck orientation)? If not you have a non-standard situation. As whistlepig noted, the "bent up portion" of the blade (if there is one) should be up. Another way to check is to remove the belt guard on one side, engage the mower and check the rotation direction of the pulley. (Probably clockwise). The cutting edge needs to be the leading edge. Even simpler, just raise the deflector and look at the blade (with the tractor off,of course). The cutting edge should be at the bottom, and the facing the rear of the deck when the blade tip is centered in the discharge chute. The bent up side will be facing the front.

Pretty sure you answered your own question when you stated the cut looks like crap. You're trying to cut with the trailing edge of the blade.
